The Melrose Arts District, managed by the Melrose Avenue Business Improvement Association, stretches along Melrose Avenue from Fairfax to Highland. As one of the most pedestrian-friendly areas of the city, Melrose Avenue has long held a reputation for being one of Los Angeles’ most unique, alternative and independent shopping, dining, arts and entertainment destinations. s, electrical utility boxes, back alleyways, or in store windows and galleries, Melrose Avenue’s art inspires, excites and stimulates the senses. The Melrose Business Improvement Association is working to revitalize and enhance the commercial vitality of the area by providing security ambassador and parking services; landscape, sanitation, and beautification services; marketing and promotions; new business attraction; and policy advocacy on behalf of its stakeholders.

Before Frankie's On Melrose was serving Italian food on , it was a fish market.

In 1987, owner Frank Competelli transformed his Melrose fish market into the New York-style Italian restaurant that still stands today.

Raised on Mulberry Street in New York’s Lower East Side, Frank brought his family recipes — including dishes inspired by his grandmother — with him to LA.

Nearly 40 years later, Frankie’s is still serving a little piece of old-school New York on Melrose. 🇮🇹🍝I

Before they were live from New York, many of them were performing right here on Melrose.

The Groundlings has helped launch an incredible lineup of “Saturday Night Live” cast members, including Laraine Newman, Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney, Cheri Oteri, Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Ana Gasteyer, Chris Parnell, Maya Rudolph, Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Michaela Watkins, Taran Killam, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner and Ashley Padilla.

For more than 50 years, this little theatre on Melrose has been one of comedy’s biggest star factories. Get your tickets for their sketch or improv shows!

OUI MELROSE ™️ has been serving up its take on khachapuri, the Georgian “cheese boat” that’s basically built for social media: freshly baked bread filled with a bubbling three-cheese blend and finished with a runny egg yolk. It’s been turning heads on Melrose for years — even earning attention from the Los Angeles Times.

Today, you can go classic or try versions topped with mushrooms, soujouk, bacon & chives, or black truffle. And because this is Oui, the bread is baked in-house.

HeadLine Records was founded by French DJ Jean Luc “John” Gaudry, who moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of opening a punk shop. Since 1979, Golden Apple Comics has been known as the “Comic Shop to the Stars” — and for good reason. Michael Jackson was once a regular customer, while Stan Lee, Seth Green, Kevin Smith, Gerard Way, John Carpenter, Tom Morello, Gene Simmons, Public Enemy, Milo Ventimiglia and many more have stopped by for signings and special events.
