All too often in the business of construction, design-build firms operate as paper-based contractors with no actual in-house tradespeople of their own, instead employing outside subcontractors. At Home Front Build, we are exceedingly proud of the loyal team of framers and finishers, masons and plasterers, cabinet makers, hardware specialists, and tile setters we’ve assembled over the years. In addition to these highly skilled craftspeople, we’ve rounded out our team with intuitive and experienced architects and interior designers. Designing curves on a California hillside is not for the faint of heart. Earthquake codes want straight. Structure wants straight. Contractors want straight. But the vision demands curves and the best design always comes from solving impossible problems.
Founding Designer Steve Pallrand breaks down how we’re making it happen with straight shear walls on the outside for safety and structural integrity, furred out on the inside for the curves, the insulation, and that beautiful asymmetrical feel we’re chasing.

Before you sand anything down always wear a mask, clean the area thoroughly, and when in doubt hire a professional who knows how to handle it safely and responsibly. Your health is worth it.

SWIPE to see the digital renders video. Not everyone does this anymore but we do. This is a hand built architectural scale model created specifically for this ADU project. See the pool? The trees? The elevation of the land? That’s intentional. This property sits at different levels, the front house sits higher, the patio steps down, and the ADU with its green rooftop garden sits below.
