Not exactly the kind of natural light you want for your home. 👀

Large gaps have developed between the sill plate and this river rock foundation, showing significant separation over time.

River rock foundations are especially vulnerable during earthquakes because the irregular stones are held together with mortar and typically lack the reinforcement found in modern concrete foundations. When the sill plate connection is also compromised, the home can have even less ability to resist and transfer seismic forces safely.
