Your $10,000 front door should NOT be your construction entrance.
If you’re spending serious money on a custom entry door, ask about using a temporary construction door during the job.
You still get a secured, weather-tight opening without letting every trade on the project beat up the finished door for months.
Then install the real door toward the end of the project when the heavy traffic is done.
Tiny planning detail. Potentially very expensive mistake.

How have I never seen these before?
These are T-Blocks from Belgard Outdoor Living. One concrete block can be configured into benches, planters, garden walls, tables and entire outdoor seating setups.
The clever part is that the shape is designed to work with dimensional lumber, and Belgard has individual project plans showing the block layout, lumber cuts and materials needed for each build.
Pretty damn clever system for DIY backyard projects.

Vanities are not your only option.
A pedestal sink eliminates the cabinet and countertop, takes up way less visual and physical space, and can be a great way to simplify a small bathroom.
Yes, you lose under-sink storage — but for a powder room or guest bath, ask yourself how much of that storage you actually need.
Add an inexpensive over-the-toilet cabinet or shelving and you can get most of that functionality back without filling the room with a giant vanity.
Pedestal sinks deserve way more love.

I learned this one the loud way 😂
Generator size and generator TYPE are two different decisions.
⚡ 1,000–2,000W → basic camping + electronics
⚡ 3,000–4,000W → small RV + A/C
⚡ 6,500–10,000W+ → larger jobsite or substantial home backup
Those are general ranges — always add up the actual loads you’re planning to run and account for starting wattage.
And if you’re camping anywhere near other people, don’t underestimate how much you’ll appreciate an inverter generator.
One final thing: NEVER run a fuel-burning generator inside a tent, RV, vehicle, garage or other enclosed space.

People will spend thousands upgrading their tile and completely overlook the features that actually make a bathroom better to live in.
Privacy. Warm floors. Better lighting. Hidden storage. Natural light. A shower you can comfortably use as you get older.
Those are the details that make a bathroom feel custom—not just expensive.

If you’re paying designer-store prices for every piece of decor, you’re wasting money.
HomeGoods is one of my favorite places for real wood decor, candles, glass pieces, wicker baskets and wood/marble trays.
But I’m not furnishing the entire house here. Furniture, bedding, pillows and basic picture frames usually get a pass.
The trick is buying the stuff that LOOKS expensive somewhere else.

You probably don’t need to frame a niche into every shower.
Niches look great, but they also mean more framing, more waterproofing details, more tile cuts and another decision that has to be made before the shower is finished.
A tileable corner shelf like this gives you storage without turning it into an entire construction detail — and some retrofit versions can even be installed after the shower is already tiled.

Vessel sinks aren’t the problem. Installing them like a normal sink is.
Put one on a standard-height vanity and your finished sink can end up ridiculously high. Then pair it with the wrong faucet and you’ve got another problem.
Choose the vessel first. Then work backward to your vanity height and faucet height/reach.

Floor & Decor is one of those stores where I LOVE certain departments and completely skip others.
For tile, installation materials and even plumbing fixtures, Floor & Decor can be ridiculously useful — especially because you can actually find a huge amount of it in stock.
But vanities, mirrors and lighting? I’m shopping around before I spend that money.
The biggest mistake is assuming one store has to be the best place to buy every part of your remodel.
