Ladies, your husbands are stupid 😂
“I’m only gonna be up there for five minutes” is not a fall-protection system.

If someone in your house is climbing onto the roof to clean gutters, patch something, hang lights or make a repair, get them proper fall protection.

This Werner system includes a harness, 50-ft lifeline and temporary roof anchor. It still needs to be properly installed, inspected and used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Around $100 is nothing compared to what one bad fall can cost.

And yes, husbands, you can yell at me in the comments.

Never use brand new brick.
Sometimes all the imperfections are exactly what you’re paying for.

Old mortar, chipped edges, staining and color variation give brick the character that works so well with Spanish, Mediterranean and old-world design.

But it’s even more important when you’re patching existing brick. Put perfectly clean new brick into an old wall and that repair can stick out immediately.

I found this 1¼” used clay brick at for 68¢ each. Sometimes used actually looks better than new.

Spanish-style bathrooms don’t have to cost $15,000 to look incredible.

This combination gives you warm handmade textures, classic brick tile, natural stone, and bold blue accents—all using materials you can buy at Home Depot.
Material Breakdown

🏡 Floor Tile — $375
🧱 Shower Wall Tile — $630
🔹 Accent Niche Tile — $26
🚿 Shower Floor — $135
🪵 Vanity — $499
⚫ Black Fixtures — $220
🪞 Mirror — $120
🚽 Toilet — $150
Total Materials: ≈ $2,155

That still leaves you roughly $845 for grout, thinset, lighting, paint, hardware, and finishing touches while staying under a $3,000 material budget.

Your safe isn’t very useful if someone can take the entire thing.

A wall safe gets secured between the studs and can be concealed behind artwork or a mirror. Now someone has to find it, access it, AND get into it.

For smaller valuables and documents, I’d take concealed + secured to the framing over a loose countertop safe every time.

Don’t spend $300 on your plumber before trying this.

A toilet auger can work through the toilet trap to break up a clog — and depending on what’s stuck, it can sometimes even snag a foreign object and pull it back out.

For sinks, tubs and showers, grab a drain snake instead. The longer, thinner cable is designed to get down the drain and grab hair and buildup.

It won’t solve every plumbing problem, but for a basic clog, I’d try this before paying for a service call.

My framer taught me this trick and I basically stopped reaching for my electronic stud finder.

A magnetic stud finder doesn’t try to “see” through the wall. It finds the screws or nails attaching your drywall to the framing.

Find one → move vertically → find another → now you can confirm the framing line.

One important warning: finding a stud does NOT mean it’s automatically safe to drill. If your magnet grabs a large area instead of one small fastener, stop. You could be finding a protective nail plate, conduit, piping, or something else you definitely don’t want to drill into.

Your framing shouldn’t decide where your lights go.

With traditional recessed cans, a perfectly planned lighting layout can fall apart once you discover a joist, beam, duct, or other obstruction exactly where the fixture needs to go.

Canless recessed lights give you significantly more flexibility because the fixture itself is incredibly thin and doesn’t require a traditional recessed can above the ceiling.

It’s one of those little construction details that can make a BIG difference in how the finished room looks.

Building a dream bathroom from Floor & Decor for around $3K. 👀
The green vertical tile + warm wood + brass is the combination for me.
And that ceiling-mounted shower curtain track is one of my favorite ways to make a bathroom feel different without dumping a ton of money into custom glass.
Prices can vary by location and change over time, but this gives you a pretty damn good starting point.

Designers have been trying to kill the barn door for years 😂 I’m not ready.
The problem was never the barn door — it was putting one somewhere that actually needed the privacy of a real hinged door.
For offices, dens, closets, pantries and other spaces where you want separation without giving up floor space to a door swing, I still think they’re incredibly practical.
And now that you can buy the door, track and hardware together as a complete kit, they’re a whole lot easier to specify and install.
