Every kitchen remodel we take on starts the same way — on our showroom floor, with your hands on the actual cabinet door.

Here is what went into this one. We kept the oak shaker doors in their natural, light tone — no heavy stain — so the grain does the warming instead of paint. They run in an L around the room, with a center island topped in bright quartz to carry the light from the window over the sink. Black bar pulls on every door and drawer for contrast. A soft sage tile behind the range. Deep drawer banks built into the island so the counters stay clear.

The homeowner’s goal was simple: a kitchen that feels warm but never dated. The natural oak does the warmth; the white island and black hardware keep it current instead of country. That balance is the thing a lot of remodels miss in one direction or the other — too cold, or too farmhouse — and it is exactly what we work out with you before anything gets ordered.

Both of these kitchens are nearly the same size. One reads classic — deep navy Shaker, carved frame profiles, marble. The other reads contemporary — walnut flat panels, sage green cabinetry, brass pulls.

Neither one is better. They’re both answers to questions we asked at the first consultation: How do you want the room to feel? What does this home’s architecture want? How will you actually cook here?
