What began as a vision has now been recognized on an international stage.
Vertical Studio, winner of the Residential Renovation category at the BIG SEE Awards 2026, is a meaningful reflection of the vision, collaboration, and craftsmanship behind the project.

Originally conceived as a compact 12 × 12 creative space, the project evolved through careful planning, spatial refinement, and a fully integrated design approach into an environment where architecture, technology, acoustics, and atmosphere work together seamlessly.

At Archetype Design Collective, we believe great design is not only about aesthetics, but about how a space performs, feels, and supports the people who inhabit it. Every detail within Vertical Studio was approached through that lens, from proportion and materiality to lighting, acoustics, and precision integration.

This recognition reflects the dedication and collective effort required to translate vision into built reality. In this Pacific Palisades residence, symmetry and millwork establish a sense of calm and visual balance. Layered paneling, integrated cabinetry, and aligned openings create clarity throughout the space, while natural light from above softens the atmosphere and enhances the feeling of openness. This week, we’re highlighting a series of modern bathroom environments explore how light, material, proportion, and atmosphere shape the experience of living well. At Rockcroft in Malibu, continuity defines the space. Stone surfaces extend across the enclosure while a horizontal window draws natural light deep into the room, connecting the bathroom to the surrounding landscape and reinforcing a calmer, more restorative experience.

This week, we’re taking a closer look at a selection of modern bathroom environments at Archetype Design Collective, note these spaces designed not only for function, but for restoration, comfort, and the experience of everyday living.

What actually defines a luxury modern home? It’s not size. It’s not materials alone. It’s how the details are resolved.

In modern residential design, the difference between a space that feels minimal and one that feels unfinished comes down to precision how transitions align, how materials meet, and how systems are integrated from the beginning.

From flush transitions and integrated millwork to shadow reveals and architectural lighting, these details are not surface-level upgrades. They are decisions that must be made early where design and construction work as one system. This is what elevates a home beyond trend into something intentional, cohesive, and built to last.

A kitchen designed in harmony with the architecture. This custom-built kitchen was designed for someone who values precision, order, and a sense of calm. Nothing feels added on. Everything is built in, aligned, and exactly where it should be.

Surfaces remain uninterrupted as the material palette carries across cabinetry, walls, and adjoining spaces. BauTeam cabinetry sits flush within the architectural framework, creating a continuous plane that reads as part of the structure itself.

The wood grain, linear layout, and integrated lighting establish a quiet rhythm, while the monolithic island introduces contrast and anchors the room. Proportions remain consistent, and transitions are kept tight, allowing the space to feel composed without distraction.

The kitchen extends directly into the living and dining areas, maintaining clear sightlines and a cohesive flow throughout the home.
