This crispy dead backyard hickory had ONE way out.

Surrounded by fences, outbuildings, play areas, chicken coops, landscaping, and Grandma’s petunias… simply “dropping the tree” was never an option.

So the Treegorilla crew built an escape route.

Using a speed line rigged from a neighboring pine tree to a Portawrap at the base of a sweetgum and/or the mini skid, the crew safely flew brush, tops, and wood across the fence line into an open yard that a generous Cabot neighbor allowed us to use for access.

From there, our mini skid steer and ground protection mat system kept the properties protected while debris moved efficiently to the loader truck. The final sections were carefully lifted over the fence using our loader crane to finish the removal with precision and control.

No torn up yards.
No broken fences.
No destroyed landscaping.

Just strategy, teamwork, and controlled rigging.

Big shoutout to Tyler running the 75’ rear mount bucket, Brian absolutely dialing in the Portawrap, Garrett for keeping the mini skid moving debris, and the entire crew for making a difficult removal look smooth.

Memorial Day means a little more to me than cookouts and a long weekend.

The young man in this photo was volunteering with us during a Saluting Branches project, where I’ve had the honor of serving as a site leader for the past 10 years. Seeing younger generations serve veterans and care for these sacred places reminds me why remembrance matters.

It also reminds me of my childhood friend, The 1LT Tom Martin.

Tom went from the enlisted ranks to West Point Academy, became an Army Ranger, and ultimately gave his life in Iraq after being killed in action.

He was the kind of man people mean when they use the word hero.

Today we honor all who made the ultimate sacrifice, but especially the ones whose names and stories we carry with us personally.

Never forgotten.

This video shows a large water oak removal in North Little Rock where precision rigging was critical to protect the home, sheds, and surrounding property.

Using a GRCS (Good Rigging Control System), blocks, rings, and mechanical advantage, we were able to safely lift and control long, overextended limbs before lowering them into a tight backyard space.

This is the difference between cutting and controlled tree removal.

Storms are coming. Most tree damage isn’t random.

The majority of failures we see during storms were already there… they just hadn’t been exposed yet.

Poor Structure.
Dead limbs.
Overextended branches.

We had the opportunity to work with Edge Factor as part of Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders Arkansas LAUNCH initiative, sharing what a career in arboriculture actually looks like.

This isn’t just tree work.

It’s problem solving.
It’s risk management.
It’s precision.
It’s taking care of people, property, and the environment we live in.

Most people never get to see what goes into doing this work the right way. These videos give a glimpse into that world, and into a career path that doesn’t follow the traditional route.

After years of uncertainty regarding the creator of this highly enjoyable video-game, I was today years old when I discovered that it was developed by the esteemed Tumia Laybourn, owner of Treeweta Limited based in Auckland, New Zealand.

We are looking at getting some new crew shirts that aren’t completely safety yellow (particularly where we get the yellow dirty) while still having good high visibility. Some mornings just hit different.

Coffee in hand.
Frogs talking back and forth across the creek.
Birds carrying the soundtrack.
And trees... young, old, thriving, and
those that have transitioned into wildlife habitat still doing their job.

This little piece of ground didn't happen by accident.
It's been worked, cared for, and respected.

I get to sit here on a swing I built with my team years ago... and take it all in.

Grateful for this life.
Grateful for the work that allows it.
Grateful for what trees give us when we take care of them the right way.
Grateful to serve a God who creates such beauty.
