Clean beds start with a clean edge.

Before mulch or plants go in, we set a border so the grass stays out of the bed and the mulch stays in. Most people never notice this step. They just notice the bed still looks sharp a year later.

A backyard you actually want to sit in.

We installed artificial turf in this backyard. It stays green all year, never needs mowing, and there's no mud tracked in from the fire pit all winter.

If your yard is just a patch of grass you mow and ignore, it doesn't have to stay that way. Planning next season's project? Our design calendar fills up over the winter. Reach out at hartmanlandscapellc.com

October in Southwest Washington means one thing: leaves. A lot of them.

Wet leaves left sitting through winter smother lawns and turn beds into a mess by spring. Our crew clears lawns, beds, and walkways so your property heads into the rainy season clean.

Some slopes are hard to mow and harder to use. A boulder wall turns them into a feature.

On this Cathlamet property, we built a boulder retaining wall to hold the slope. With river rock below and lavender along the top, it looks good all year and leaves nothing to mow on a hillside.

Got a slope, a soggy spot, or a yard that never got finished? That's where we start. Request a consult at hartmanlandscapellc.com

The best time to install sod is typically early fall or spring! 🌱

For the Pacific Northwest, early fall is especially great because cooler temperatures and consistent moisture help new sod establish strong roots without the stress of summer heat.

Sod can be installed during summer, but it requires much more frequent watering to keep it from drying out.

Hartman Landscaping Tip: Don’t wait until spring to start thinking about that new lawn—fall can be one of the best times to get it established! 🍂

Healthy hedges should generally have rich, vibrant green foliage, but the exact shade depends on the plant variety.

If a hedge that is normally green starts turning pale green or yellow, it can sometimes signal:

-Too much or too little water
-Nutrient deficiencies
-Poor drainage
-Pest or disease issues
-Seasonal changes

Landscaping tip: Pay more attention to a change in your hedge’s normal color than to one specific shade of green. If it suddenly looks lighter, patchy, yellow, or brown, it may be telling you something!

Most hedges benefit from trimming 2–3 times per year, but it depends on the type of hedge and how quickly it grows. 🌿

Fast-growing hedges may need attention every 4–6 weeks during the growing season, while slower-growing varieties might only need trimming once or twice a year.

Regular trimming isn’t just about looks, it encourages fuller growth, helps maintain the hedge’s shape, and removes dead or damaged branches.
