When Colorado snow starts melting, where does all that water go?
It's a question worth answering before winter.

Take a look around your property this fall. Areas that already collect water after rain may become trouble spots when snow begins melting. Drainage features can help direct water through the landscape rather than allowing it to sit in low areas.

A yard and a ton aren't the same thing.

A cubic yard measures volume, or how much space a material takes up. A ton measures weight.

That distinction matters because different landscape materials have different densities. A cubic yard of mulch doesn't weigh the same as a cubic yard of rock, and even different aggregates can vary.

That's why estimating materials isn't always as simple as deciding how many "yards" you need.

When choosing landscape rock, color gets a lot of attention. But size matters, too.

Smaller rock can provide more detailed coverage and work well in planting areas, pathways, and smaller landscape beds. Larger rock creates more visual weight and definition, making it a strong option for dry creek beds, drainage features, accents, and spaces where smaller stone might get visually lost.

For example, Colorado Materials' 3/8" Grand Mesa Gray is suited to beds, borders, pathways, and ground cover, while the larger 2–4" Glacier Blue Cobble creates a much more substantial presence for drainage swales and statement areas.
