Four years ago, my wife and I decided to take the big leap and invest in a property that I wanted to be a catalyst for improvement on Pacific Avenue here in Long Beach. I recently heard a project described as being there to create a community and in retrospect that’s exactly what we’ve done. This project has offered housing to a previously unhoused minority vet, it’s created a workshop and incubator space for person incarcerated for 23 years, it’s employees dozens of local craftsman, It’s a coffee house for a young minority, startup and opening soon It will also include Whale Face inauthentic island food.

 if you’re in the neighborhood, you’ll see new mural being created in the courtyard, which is being done by hyper local artist Roshi - an incredibly talented artist. Over the last few weeks, while he’s working on this piece people have frequently come to the property to marvel at it and it’s given me more of a sense of community than I could’ve felt any other way. People feel engaged with the mural, they’re stimulated by the artist, and it starts to become full circle. The art is the community and Roshi is giving us all that connection through a piece that represents enlightenment, serenity, balance, and fundamental beauty.

It’s finally happening! After three long years since aquiring this property, our intention to catalyze cultural renewal on Pacific Ave is becoming a reality. Creating something from nothing is a monumental task but at that moment when it works, when after countless hours and thousands of small victories, it starts to do what it was intended to do.

That’s an extroadanary moment….. the one I am experiencing right now.

Welcome Dedos Coffee at 2156 Pacific Ave in Long Beach. Please come out and support them and feel like you are not just getting coffee, you’re connecting with your neighborhood!
