The official countdown has begun!!!
2 years left to go before we move back to a place with seasons & a slower pace. It’s been a fun ride, but 30 years here has proven to be a few too many.

Between the never ending barrage of customers that think my time is free, or my knowledge gained from 35 years in the trades should be taken advantage of whenever possible, I think I’ve had enough.

The homeless that have taken over the city I love so much, and the massive amount of gigantic apartments that are sprouting up everywhere, (including the 4 story 73 unit one that’s being built 200’ away from our house) certainly are making this decision a lot easier for me to make.

I don’t want to live in a place where a run down starter home is +800k. Thats not the American Dream our ancestors fought and died for. That’s double the cost of a dream home on 50 acres in most of the places I would rather be.

If you’re wanting anything done, I’d get the idea in motion pretty soon. I’d like to think by this time next year I will be winding things down, if I’m not already emotionally checked out & packing things up.

I don’t try to upsell many customers on things. I’m happy to give ideas & suggestions, but I always try to be honest with everyone.
This tile surround was in bad shape. It had been regrouted over moldy grout, & the whole building is sinking…. Literally.
But it’s a rental that just needs to get occupied for a while.
Whenever I suggest glazing over the tile, even though it needs it, most people say
“Oh no, it’s fine, it’ll clean up”
Well this one definitely wouldn’t, and after seeing the tub look new again, the tile looked even worse!
It’s a whole heck of a lot easier to do these intentionally together, instead of separately, as a last minute decision. But ehhh, next year will be my 35th year of glazing tubs, so at this point in the game, just get it done if it makes the customer happy.

This week has been about redoing some poorly glazed stuff. This tub & tile was done about a year & a half ago. Started peeling due to the coating being too thin, and the lack of a quality primer. His entire job was about as thick as my epoxy primer coat. Owell, this is what keeps me busy I guess. And absolutely no concern for the top edges where the tile meets the wall… who needs caulking anyway🙄
