When dealing with a limited amount of space, it’s critical to make the most of it. This custom closet provides an additional 14 square feet of shelving. That’s a big deal when there’s only 25 square feet of closet space to work with. The stain grade hardwood adds some warmth and character to the space.

If you’re ready to make the closet you wish you had a reality, let us know!

Custom built-ins for a recent Missoula bathroom remodel. Fun challenge to take some unused space and turn it into a functional and aesthetic element of the home. The matching base and case trim completed the look.

This is a personal project. It’s been on the back burner for many months, but I finally carved out some time to wrap it up. My intent was to utilize some traditional joinery techniques in a contemporary design.

Reason #143 to keep a sharp chisel in the tool belt. During a meeting with some folks from another builder not too long ago, someone asked about the bandage on my finger. I said I cut myself with a chisel. Someone jokingly remarked “you know there are power tools for that.”

The factory cut mortise in this door was the wrong shape and not deep enough. Certainly that could have been addressed with power tools, but it would not have been any faster, probably would not have turned out as clean, and definitely would have had a higher likelihood of a mistake.

When there’s very little margin for error, taking a bit of time to create a template can prevent a costly mistake. The packaging for this 10 foot long butcher block was ideal to make sure all the measurements were dialed before a blade touched the wood.

Just wrapped up this balustrade as part of a Missoula area home remodel. The idea was to wrap the existing post to match the floor, but the post was about 1/4” off plumb and had a twist to it. So I cut it down, put a mortise in it, and built back up from there. Balusters are bar steel that I painted flat black. Post and rails are hickory. Mixed material projects like this one are a lot of fun and have a nice aesthetic.
