Today on September 11th, we pause to remember the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and a day that forever changed our country.
Our Owner shared these words today and we thought they were worth sharing here as well:
Today marks 25 years since September 11th, 2001.
On that day, I was in fifth grade at Heritage Elementary School, sitting in a student council meeting. When I walked back into my classroom, the TVs were blaring with the news, and I had no idea what any of it meant. One by one, kids started getting pulled out of class by their parents — and then it was my turn. I remember going home and flipping through the channels, and all but two of them had 9/11 broadcast across the screen.
I told my mom that day that I was going to become a United States Marine. It's something I aimed for from that moment on, ultimately going to Parris Island to become a Marine, and later becoming a full-time firefighter and EMT before launching into entrepreneurship. That single moment in fifth grade set the course for the rest of my life. I'm grateful for the men and women I met and the life lessons I learned through my time in the fire department and in the military.
We remember every life lost that day — the innocent people in the towers, the passengers on those flights, and the selfless men and women of New York City who ran toward danger instead of away from it. 343 firefighters gave everything trying to save others. That number has always hit home for me.
It saddens me to see the divide in this country just 25 years later.
We let the government, politics, and news channels divide us every way possible - through skin color, political decisions, religion. But I truly believe there's an extreme 20% on the left and an extreme 20% on the right, and 60%+ of us are far more aligned than we realize.
It hurts to see Americans divided when we live in the greatest country in the world. Anyone who doubts that should spend some time in another country - you'll see just how blessed we are and the opportunity we have here.
I'm grateful to be an American. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to serve this country. And I'm grateful to raise my children here. I will never take that for granted.
I pray that leadership rises up and focuses on uniting this country instead of dividing it, because that's what we need.
We need good men to stand up and lead — not for personal gain, not for backdoor checks from any organization, but because they love this country.
Not because they need the money, not because they want to inflate their ego or chase followers, but because they want to serve the people of this nation.
One of my favorite stories that embodies America is that of Todd Beamer on 9/11. He called his wife to let her know what was happening, then decided he was going to help take down Flight 93 before it could strike another target and kill more people.
His final recorded words were, "Let's roll." It gives me chills every time, and it brings tears to my eyes thinking about a man who knew his final moments had come — and chose to stand up and fight so others wouldn't die with him.
That is what an American is. And I'm proud to be one.
So, let's roll. God bless America. 🇺🇸
