Moving a giant pumpkin is a science! Here is a quick behind-the-scenes look at how we get these monsters out of the patch and onto the trailer.

    •    Step 1: Cover the pumpkin to shield it from any accidental bumps or drops.
    •    Step 2: Assemble the giant tripod and center it right over the top.
    •    Step 3: Hook up the chain hoist and the weighing scale.
    •    Step 4: Secure the pumpkin using a heavy-duty pumpkin lift ring.
    •    Step 5: Lift, weigh, inspect, and set it down safely onto a pallet on the trailer.

With good access, the entire process takes less than an hour from start to finish.

Sirweighsalot was cut off the vine today. This giant pumpkin was in great shape and it weighed more than 100 pounds than estimated. I dropped it off at Bokisch Vineyards and the weight will be revealed their following their contest. Be sure to check it out!

Sirweighsalot is ready. After months of nurturing, measuring, and protecting this monster, the moment of truth has officially arrived.

In a few days, I’ll cut this giant pumpkin off the vine and move it out of my neighbor’s backyard. It’s leaving the patch for its grand debut at Bokisch Vineyards.

I’ll share the cutting and moving process on social media. Hopefully it all goes well. Sometimes it turns into an absolute circus. You never know what will happen. 😂

It is time to cut this little pumpkin off the vine. It is an ugly thing and it isn’t very big, but it is technically a giant pumpkin. The seed I used to grow this was 9 years old. It is still too large for me to move by myself. 😊

It is mid-September, and I am battling the usual things in the patch. Weeds are getting larger, powdery mildew is showing up, and so are aphids. Some leaves are starting to die, and I’m removing them to increase airflow and reduce pests! Overall, the plant looks pretty good for this time of year. I had to run my misters last week as it got close to 100°. I hope I’m all done with them. Pumpkin is in good shape.
