This is David for another update. Everyone thinks I'm a bit crazy with things I try out sometimes and I can't blame them. This fall I got Rick talked into seeding some turnips in some of our better ground but also has compaction issues. Why turnips? Glad you asked, they are a great cover crop just to keep weeds down over the winter plus as the turnips grow they open up the soil so the ground will act more as a sponge than a concrete sidewalk even out did rain next spring. I mixed in triticale and rye grass which along with the turnip tops will provide good grazing. I'm sure I'll pick a few myself to take home to eat, mashed turnips are pretty good.

This spring my millet test did pretty well so we'll see how this 5 acre plot goes.
