Can't see the bridge today but the hardscape on this project is almost complete! There is over 3,500 square feet of pavers on the project, and that doesn't even include the walls.

A little collection of summer. 🌿

I couldn't settle on just one flower this week, so here's a handful of the blooms that have been stealing my attention.

It's moments like these that remind me why I love perennial gardens—they change a little every day, and there's always something new to discover.

I am fully embracing my cottage garden era, and honestly, I think the world could use a little more whimsy.

Give me the overflowing flowers. The winding paths. The plants that insist on popping up where they please. The blooms that attract bees, butterflies, and the occasional "What is THAT?" from a passerby.

For so long, gardens were expected to be neat, tidy, and perfectly controlled. But there's something magical about a space that feels alive, a little wild, and full of surprises.

Maybe that's why I'm loving cottage style esthetic so much right now. They're a reminder that beauty doesn't have to be perfectly organized. Sometimes the most memorable gardens are the ones that make you slow down, wander a little, and smile at something unexpected.

Here's to more flowers, more butterflies, and a little more whimsy in the world!

Flower Friday: Clematis 🌸

Whether it's climbing a trellis, wrapping around an arbor, or adding color to a fence, clematis brings beauty from the ground up. 🌿✨

A garden can never have too many clematis... right? 😉

One of the best parts of this job is getting to revisit projects after they've had some time to settle in.

I stopped by this landscape we completed last season and was reminded why I love natural flagstone so much. We added a 4' wide pathway from the driveway to the existing patio, along with a 2' wide walkway that winds around the front landscape and side yard.

The plants are still getting established, and I can't wait to see how everything fills in over the next few years. But even now, the stone feels like it's always been part of the property.

Natural flagstone has a way of blending into the landscape and creating that relaxed "up north" feeling that so many people are drawn to. It's timeless, full of character, and only gets better with age.

I can't wait to stop back in a few years and see how this one has matured!

Today’s Flower Friday is all about a classic — the rose.

I know roses aren't exactly a groundbreaking Flower Friday feature, but they've been calling my name all week, and sometimes the classics deserve their moment in the spotlight.

I've loved roses for as long as I can remember. Maybe it's because they seem to carry so much history with them. Every garden has a rose story—whether it's a treasured plant passed down through generations, a climbing rose framing a front porch, or a shrub that faithfully blooms year after year. They have a way of making a space feel established, loved, and a little bit romantic.

The inspiration for today's post came from a few client visits this week. Everywhere I turned, roses were putting on a show. Some were covered in blooms, others were just beginning to open, but each one stopped me in my tracks. It's hard not to admire a plant that can be so elegant while also being surprisingly tough.

One of the things I find most fascinating about roses is just how diverse they are. From compact shrub roses to sprawling climbers, there truly is a rose for almost every garden style. And while roses have a reputation for being fussy, many modern varieties are far more resilient and low-maintenance than people expect. With the right placement and care, they can reward you with months of color, fragrance, and beauty.

Beyond their blooms, roses seem to connect people. Almost everyone has a memory tied to a rose—someone who grew them, a favorite garden, a special occasion, or simply the scent that reminds them of home. That's part of what makes them so timeless.

While roses may not be the most unusual Flower Friday feature, I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about one of my favorite garden staples.

Today’s Flower Friday doesn’t actually flower, but these have been calling my name like a siren song all week. Today we’re talking about the Weeping White Pine.
I have such an affinity for all evergreen weepers — they bring so much whimsy and character into a landscape. There’s just something magical about them. They also always make me think of my Uncle Mike. He was a horticulturist himself and truly such a swell guy. He had this adorable little weeper he was training in his front yard beneath a massive Dawn Redwood, and I remember being absolutely fascinated by it.

I stumbled across a gorgeous batch of Weeping White Pines at the nursery yesterday and couldn’t stop admiring how beautifully and intentionally they had been trained. Then today, my very last client of the day had this massive one in their yard! (Yes… that’s me hiding in there.)

One of the coolest things about Weeping White Pines is that no two are really alike. They can be staked, trained, twisted, draped, or sculpted into all kinds of forms over time, which makes each one feel like a living piece of art. It takes patience, but that’s part of the charm. Despite their soft, delicate appearance, they're also surprisingly hard trees once established.

While this doesn’t exactly fit my typical Flower Friday, I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about one of my favorite plants — and a little bit about me too.
