It started with a blank slate, an open unfinished basement. Full of potential and a family who needed more space.
They wanted to add a bedroom downstairs so everyone could have a place of their own. We replaced the small basement window with an egress window to bring in light and meet safety requirements. The new solid wood staircase replaced the construction grade steps that had been there before. We made creative use of the area beneath the stairs by adding a closet and built-ins for the bedroom, turning what is usually unused space into practical storage.
On the opposite side of the stair base, out in the common area, another custom triangular built-in adds warmth and character to the room. At the bottom of the stairs, a solid wood bookshelf now stands where there was once an empty wall, perfect for displaying keepsakes or favorite team memorabilia.
The laundry room was framed in and finished with custom cabinetry around the fridge, a new sink, and hexagon tile flooring. Beside it, we added a full bathroom, the first this basement has ever had. The open utilities and storage are now hidden behind closed doors, giving the family a place for everything they need but don't want to see every day.
At the heart of the basement, a bright, comfortable living area, ready for movie nights, homework or quiet time. No more concrete, no more studs. Just a space to make memories in.
