HIGH DEDUCTIBLES ARE EXPOSING A MAJOR FLAW IN INSURANCE RESTORATION.

The insurer subtracts the deductible, but the contractor is left to collect it. If the homeowner refuses to pay, the carrier moves on. Yet contractors who waive or disguise deductibles may violate the law and face serious consequences.

Waiving a $5,000 or $10,000 deductible is not helping the homeowner. It means accepting less money while still carrying the labor, material, warranty and liability costs. That is not smart sales—it is financial self-sabotage.

A better system: insurers collect deductibles upfront and hold them in escrow. Once the work is completed and documented, the funds are released to the contractor.

That protects homeowners, contractors and insurers while reducing deductible fraud.

Contractors should stop devaluing the industry, and homeowners should stop seeking arrangements that misrepresent the true transaction.

Collect the deductible. Hold it in escrow. Release it when the work is complete.

Trek Contracting has built its reputation by doing more than simply replacing roofs after storms.

Yes, we understand insurance restoration and know how to document damage, work through the construction scope, and help homeowners navigate the process professionally.

But our responsibility does not stop there.

We also look at the home itself, the surrounding environment, long-term durability, and overall safety to determine whether there may be a better roofing system available.

For some Colorado homes—especially those in higher wildfire-risk areas—that can mean considering an upgrade from traditional asphalt shingles to stone-coated steel roofing.

These upgrades are not free, and we do not present them that way. They are an optional investment for homeowners who want greater longevity, durability, and protection.

A properly designed Class A fire-rated roofing assembly represents the highest level of fire resistance for roofing systems and can help reduce the vulnerability of the roof to wind-blown embers and nearby fire exposure.

Stone-coated steel can also provide:

• Excellent impact and hail resistance
• Strong wind performance
• Long service life
• Reduced maintenance
• Premium architectural appearance
• Greater peace of mind in Colorado’s demanding climate

The goal is not to sell every homeowner the most expensive roof.

The goal is to be the kind of roofing partner who understands your property well enough to tell you when a better option may actually make sense.

Insurance restoration when you need it. Better products when they make sense. Long-term protection always.

For the last 12 years, I’ve built my career in roofing and construction—learning how homes are built, how projects come together, how relationships create opportunities, and probably most importantly, how much there still is to learn.

Now I’m ready to build the next chapter.

Over the last several years, I’ve spent more and more time in Winter Park, Fraser, Granby and Tabernash—working here, investing here, owning property here, and watching what I believe is one of the most exciting growth stories in Colorado continue to unfold.

So I figured I’d put some of my goals out there publicly. Partly because I believe in accountability, but mostly because synergy is how I like to operate. When good people know what other good people are trying to accomplish, interesting things tend to happen.

My goal is to have my Colorado real estate license by the new year and begin combining 12+ years of construction experience with real estate, development and investment opportunities here in Grand County.

I’m also beginning to work alongside a local development that I’m extremely excited about—learning more about the development side of the business while looking for ways to bring my construction experience, relationships and resources to the table.

And behind some of this is a private investment group and opportunity that I think is going to be very interesting.

More on that soon.

This isn’t me walking away from what I’ve built. It’s the opposite.

It’s about taking 12 years of experience, relationships, mistakes, wins and lessons and figuring out how to build something bigger with them.

Construction. Real estate. Development. Investment.

I’m putting it out there because I want the accountability—and because I want the right people to know what I’m working toward.

Grand County has a lot happening. I plan on being part of it.

More to come. 🏔️

Ken-Caryl homeowners — after a significant hailstorm storm⛈️ , the door knockers, flyers, and out-of-town roofing companies can become almost as frustrating as the storm itself 🫠.

Don’t let that pressure you into a rushed decision — but don’t ignore the storm either.

Before hiring anyone, ask:

• Are they local?
• Are they licensed and insured?
• How long have they been in business?
• Can they show real local projects and references?
• Will they still be here years from now if you need them?

Trek Contracting has been serving Colorado since 2014, with a local office at Wadsworth & Bowles and more than a decade of experience in insurance restoration.

Just as important: hail damage can worsen over time. UV exposure, snow, wind, freeze/thaw cycles, and normal aging can turn small issues into larger problems.

If you wait years, sell the home, or switch insurance companies, you may eventually find yourself responsible for a roof replacement that could have been addressed much earlier.

That doesn’t mean file a claim immediately.

It means:

Get inspected. Get photo documentation. Get 2–3 professional opinions. Understand your deductible and coverage. Then make an informed decision.

Your home is too valuable to trust to the first person who knocks — and too valuable to ignore after a major storm.

Choose local. Choose established. Choose someone you can find again.

For more than 12 years, Trek Contracting has been helping Colorado homeowners, property owners, and businesses protect and improve their properties through quality roofing and exterior construction.

What started primarily as residential storm restoration has continued to evolve.

Today, we are expanding intentionally across the Colorado market with a stronger focus on:

• Residential roofing and exteriors
• Multifamily and HOA projects
• Commercial and institutional properties
• Builder and development partnerships
• Mountain construction throughout Grand County and beyond

Our experience includes asphalt shingles, stone-coated steel, standing seam metal, concrete tile, TPO/EPDM systems, gutters, siding, windows, paint, and complete exterior restoration.

But the next chapter of Trek is about more than adding services.

It is about becoming a stronger construction partner—providing better planning, communication, documentation, project management, material expertise, and long-term value from the beginning of a project through completion.

We are proud of what we have built over the last 12 years, but even more excited about where we are going.

Residential. Multi-Family. Commercial. Development.

Colorado built. Colorado operated.
Since 2014.

51 SQUARES. TWO ROOF SYSTEMS. TWO DAYS. FLAWLESS EX*****ON. 🏔️

This Boulder project is a perfect example of why a second opinion matters.

Called out by an incredibly resourceful real estate agent, our inspection uncovered far more than what was visible from the ground:

→ Manufacturer-related bleeding & delamination
→ Hail damage
→ Missing ridge caps
→ Improperly installed valleys
→ Exposed fasteners at penetrations
→ Inadequate ventilation
→ Compromised flat-roof areas

The solution was a complete roofing-system overhaul.

45 squares of GAF Grand Sequoia® ArmorShield™ II across the steep-slope roof, paired with a new 60-mil EPDM system on the 6 squares of flat roof.

And the part we’re especially proud of?

Completed seamlessly in just TWO days.

That meant coordinating tear-off, dry-in, mid-roof inspection, multiple roofing systems, Boulder weather, a steep and complex roofline, ventilation corrections, detailing, and cleanup — without sacrificing craftsmanship anywhere along the way.

Beautiful home. Complex project. Incredible crew.

Nestled on Dakota Place just off campus in Boulder, this one now has a roofing system worthy of the house beneath it.

This is what professional roofing ex*****on is supposed to look like.

We are not looking for someone who simply wants a job.

We are looking for someone ready to change the trajectory of their life.

Trek Contracting is entering a new chapter—building beyond traditional residential restoration into a stronger organization focused on leadership, growth, commercial opportunities, and team development.

This role requires:

• Drive
• Leadership
• Accountability
• Sales ability
• Recruiting
• Problem solving
• Relentless ex*****on

We plan to bring in 2–3 candidates and give them approximately 90 days to prove what they can build.

We’ll be watching more than sales:

Who takes initiative?
Who recruits?
Who solves problems?
Who follows through?
Who leads before being given the title?

Ultimately, one person earns the long-term seat.

That opportunity can include salary, profit sharing, performance bonuses, a company truck, ongoing training, and the ability to recruit and build their own team.

This is not a shortcut to wealth.

It is an opportunity to build it.

If you want comfortable and predictable, this probably isn’t for you.

If you’re hungry, competitive, coachable, and believe you’re capable of more—we want to hear from you.

If we are all going to eat, we all have to sell.

We’re building something bigger than a roofing company.

Will you watch it happen—or help build it?

Think your hail damage claim window is closed? Colorado law just said otherwise.

For years, insurers have used one line to shut down late-discovered hail claims: “You reported it too late.”

That defense just got a lot weaker.

In 2024, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled in Gregory v. Safeco that insurers can no longer deny a homeowners claim just because it was reported after the fact. They now have to prove the delay actually hurt their ability to investigate — not just point to a date on the calendar.

The Court’s reasoning matters here: hail damage is often invisible until months (or over a year) later. A homeowner shouldn’t lose coverage for something they had no way of knowing.

We’ve been doing storm damage inspections and insurance claim work in Colorado for over 12 years, and this is one of the more homeowner-favorable rulings we’ve seen. A few things we’re telling clients:

→ If you noticed roof damage from an older storm and assumed it was too late to file, it’s worth a second look.
→ Insurers now carry the burden of proving harm from the delay — not you.
→ The strongest thing a homeowner can have in that conversation is a dated, professional inspection report tied to actual regional hail history — not a guess about when it happened.

That last part is where we come in. We inspect, document, and cross-reference storm data so homeowners aren’t walking into a claims conversation with nothing but a hunch.

To be clear — we’re contractors, not attorneys, and this isn’t legal advice. When a claim does get denied, we work alongside coverage attorneys who handle that side of it.

If you’ve got a roof you’ve been wondering about, happy to take a look. No pressure, just information.
