What recent surveys show
Verint, 2026 (5,000 US consumers): 61% prefer a human, up 5 points from the year before. But 69% of those people would switch to automation if it could fully solve their issue. Among 18–34-year-olds, that figure is 93%. Customers ranked speed and getting the issue resolved above talking to a human.
Metrigy, 2025–26 (503 consumers): 85% prefer humans, and 80% still do even when promised the issue will be resolved. This is a much firmer preference than Verint found.
