The structure held. The bank held. The flow is starting to move where it needs to.

You can’t judge this kind of work at low flow.
The river will tell you the truth as soon as it’s tested. The goal isn’t to fight the water. It’s to understand where the energy is and give it a better path.

Yesterday Natural State Streams conducted prescribed burns at two restoration sites in eastern Oklahoma. These burns were planned in order to prepare for native seeding and planting of trees. Although dangerous when out of control, wildfire can improve ecosystem health by suppressing invasive species, recycling nutrients into the soil, and creating diverse habitats for wildlife.

Restoration is almost complete at this private property on Little Osage Creek near Cave Springs, AR. We use all natural materials and scientific principles to improve wildlife habitat, reverse years of erosion and land loss, and protect water quality. Next up is to plant beneficial native plants along the stream bank which will help hold soil and nutrients in place and provide a home for many species of animals.

An excellent river and riparian wetland restoration project is underway near Rentiesville, OK along Elk Creek. Natural State Streams staff have been innovating and honing our craft, moving earth and stone and stabilizing soil with bioengineering techniques. This project, like many of ours, focuses on instream habitat creation, floodplain wetland development and erosion reduction. Soon this area will be planted with a mix of biodiverse plants and trees.
