🏠 ROOFING 101: What is that pipe sticking out of your roof?

Those are pipe boots, and they're an important part of your roof's ventilation system. The flashing around them helps keep water from getting into your home.

The problem? Pipe boots can fail before your shingles do. Arkansas sun, weather, age and sometimes critters can damage them.

The first photo shows an old pipe boot we replaced during a roof replacement. The second shows one a critter chewed through that caused a leak. Luckily, we caught it early and it was a small repair.
