On Pawleys Island, water gets a vote in the fence plan.
The town applies V Zone construction standards across Pawleys Island, and its flood guidance warns that certain fences can count as obstructions below the base flood elevation unless an engineer certifies they will not worsen wave run-up or deflection.
That makes flood-zone information relevant before a coastal fence becomes a simple line on a sketch. Privacy and containment still matter, but so does understanding how the planned boundary interacts with storm water and wave movement across the property.
What part of your yard would you be least comfortable designing without first seeing the flood map?
