Outdoor outlet dead when you go to plug in your Halloween lights? Before you assume the worst, find the GFCI, the outlet with TEST and RESET buttons, like the one in the photo.

Don't stop at the dead outlet. Check the garage and bathrooms too, and any other outside wall. Press RESET firmly, one time. If it clicks and the outlet comes back, you're done.

If it won't reset, or it trips again right away, stop there and leave it off. That one is worth checking before it gets worse. No guesswork.

Do you know which panel is on your wall?

Swing the panel door out and look at the inside of the door. There's usually a label there with the maker's name and the amperage. Snap a photo of it so you have it handy. Leave the inner cover where it is. The label is all you need.
