Spaulding earns second win of the year at Oxford Plains;
Street Stock veteran marches forward in title quest
OXFORD, Maine (Aug. 3, 2025) — Lisbon native and veteran Street Stock racer Richard Spaulding took another step towards his goal of a points title over the weekend, earning his second feature win of the season on Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.
After finishing seventh in his qualifying Heat, Spaulding started the feature in sixth position. At the drop of the green, he quickly chose the outside line and wasted little time moving up into contention. He muscled his way past leader Will Dunphy on lap six, then pulled steadily way to earn top honors.
“We went through quite a night to get to that point,” Spaulding said. “In practice, I realized that the transmission I had in the car was geared way too low. It may have run the night, but I could never have put myself in position to win. It just wasn't right, and last night was pretty critical for us.
“I went and found another transmission, then my brother and crew changed it ourselves. I knew we were at a turning point in the season; it was either change it out ourselves, or throw away any hopes of securing the title. I'll praise my guys right now for their efforts, it saved the night for us, big time.”
With a borrowed (yet of high quality) transmission installed, Rick rolled off in the feature ready to set sail. With veteran spotter Tyson Jordan guiding his moves, he got up on the wheel and got it done.
He's having a career-best year, and you can hear the excitement in his voice.
“Back in the day, I had an outstanding season in the Outlaws, winning more features than I ever thought possible. But since I went Street Stock racing, it's been harder to win features and rack up the top fives. This year, this new car has been fast and steady nearly every week. It's pretty satisfying.”
As Rick cemented his second victory of 2025, Jordan Russell crossed the stripe in second. Tyler Jordan filled out the podium, while Will Dunphy and Spencer Barth completed the top five.
Finishing sixth through 10th in the Richard Spaulding Roofing Specialist Street Stock 30-lap feature were recent race winner George Haskell, Cam Richards, Peter Huston, Billy Childs Jr. and Brandon Johnson. All 11 cars completed 30 laps, while Rick's margin of victory was 1.139 seconds.
Other feature winners on Saturday during Maine Machine Night at Oxford include Ryan Littlefield (first victory in Super Late Models); Chris Foster (Limited); Tyler Connolly (Mad Bombers); Derek Guptill (Thunder Stocks); Nate Dubuc (Rebels); and Destiny Williams (Rookies).
Oxford's Championship Series teams will be back in action this coming Saturday night, August 9, when the Maine National Guard presents a full card of racing. With only three races remaining (two more in Aug. and one in early Sept.), finishes are critical for those looking to lock down a points title.
