⚡️ Electrical Myth Monday ⚡️

🚫 MYTH: “If an outlet still works, it’s safe.”

✅ FACT: An outlet can still have hidden problems, even if it powers your devices.

Watch for these warning signs:
🔥 Warm or hot to the touch
⚡ Buzzing or crackling sounds
👃 A burning smell
🟤 Discoloration or scorch marks
🔌 Plugs that fit loosely or fall out

These can all indicate worn or damaged wiring, loose connections, or an overloaded circuit. Ignoring the signs could lead to a much bigger problem.

💡 A Few Tips:
✔️ Test GFCI outlets monthly by pressing the TEST and RESET buttons.
✔️ Replace cracked or damaged outlet covers.
✔️ If an outlet doesn’t seem right, stop using it until it can be inspected.

Electrical problems don’t always announce themselves with sparks. Sometimes the warning signs are much more subtle.

🚫 MYTH: “It’s okay to use an extension cord as a permanent solution.”

✅ FACT: Extension cords are designed for temporary use only.

Using an extension cord long-term can lead to:
🔥 Overheating
⚡ Damaged insulation
🏠 Increased fire risk
🔌 Overloaded circuits

If you find yourself relying on extension cords every day, it’s probably a sign that your home needs additional outlets in a more convenient location.

💡 A Few Tips:
✔️ Use extension cords only when necessary and unplug them when you’re finished.
✔️ Never run extension cords under rugs, carpets, or furniture where heat can build up unnoticed.

🚫 MYTH: “Power strips and surge protectors are the same thing.”

✅ FACT: They’re not!

A power strip simply gives you more outlets. It does not protect your electronics from power surges.

A surge protector is designed to help protect your TVs, computers, gaming systems, and other valuable electronics from voltage spikes caused by lightning, power outages, or fluctuations in the electrical grid.

💡 A few tips:
✅ Replace surge protectors every few years or after a major surge.
✅ Look for a surge protector with a protection rating (measured in joules).
❌ Never overload a power strip or surge protector by plugging in high-powered appliances like space heaters, refrigerators, or microwaves.

Knowing the difference could save you hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars in damaged electronics.

Don’t ignore a warm outlet.

✅ FACT: Your breaker is doing exactly what it’s designed to do, protect your home.

A breaker that trips repeatedly is a warning sign that something isn’t right. It could be:
🔌 An overloaded circuit
⚡ A short circuit
🏠 A wiring issue
💡 A faulty appliance

Installing a larger breaker without addressing the actual problem can allow wires to overheat and increase the risk of an electrical fire.

The safest solution is to find and fix the cause, not silence the warning.

At Fendley Electric, we couldn’t let this day pass without pausing to honor the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country.

Memorial Day is not about celebration; it’s about remembrance.
It’s a time to reflect on the heroes who didn’t get to come home, and to honor the sacrifice their families live with every day.

We are grateful for their courage, their commitment, and the freedom their sacrifice protects.

⚡️ We’re Back and Ready to Help ⚡️

Our home was hit by the tornado Friday night, and while it was a scary experience, we are incredibly thankful to say we’re okay. We count ourselves lucky, as the damage to our property could have been much worse. We don’t take that for granted.

Power was restored to our home late last night, and with that, we’re officially charged up and ready to get back to work serving our community.

We also want to send a heartfelt thank you to our amazing customers, friends, and neighbors who reached out to check on us and offered to help clean up. Your kindness and support mean more than we can say.
