Friendly reminder. When it is 100° out your unit may struggle and may not keep up if you have your thermostat set to the lower 70s.
If you are enrolled in the energy saver program, Duke energy can also regulate your AC temperature and your AC may not go below a certain set point. If you are in the energy saver program, you may have a smart thermostat or a box outside of your house with green lights on it. If one of the lights turn red, Duke is regulating your AC/energy usage.

Looking at some hot days coming up. In North Carolina we install a lot of heat pump systems. In general the rule is that a heat pump will be able to cool your home with a 20° difference from the outside air temperature.
This works great for 90° days but on the off day that we have over 100° temperatures it will struggle.
If your home is not reaching the desired temperature of 70° on a 101° day please know it is doing all it can.
Some helpful tips to keep your AC maintaining your temperature. Though it may be uncomfortable, you can raise the temperature to around 78°. You can also close your blinds or curtains to keep the heat from the Sun out of your home.

I feel like this is a yearly exercise, but 100° days are pretty rare around here. In fact, snow is about 3.2 times more common in than a 100° day. So, for those saying this happens all the time, it just doesn't. We are 3 times more likely to see measurable snowfall on a day than on a 100° day during the year.
