As our warm-season lawns begin to go dormant, winter w**ds are getting ready to make their move. Without a good pre-emergent barrier in place, those w**ds can germinate and quickly become the green patches you see taking over dormant lawns all winter long.

When it comes to fall pre-emergent, timing is everything.

Pre-emergent works by creating a barrier in the soil that helps prevent w**d seeds from germinating. That means the best time to fight those winter w**ds is before you ever see them popping up in your lawn.

Once w**ds are already established, we’re no longer preventing them — we’re trying to control them.

That’s why fall pre-emergent is such an important part of a good w**d control program here on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

🍂 Fall is right around the corner… and so is PRE-EMERGENT season! 🌱

It may still feel like summer here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, but now is the time to start thinking ahead about winter w**ds.

Fall pre-emergent is one of the most important steps in a good lawn care program. It creates a barrier in the soil that helps prevent many annual w**ds from ever getting established in your lawn.

👉 The key is TIMING. Pre-emergent needs to be applied before those w**d seeds germinate — once the w**ds are already growing, pre-emergent can't turn back the clock.

We'll soon be making our way through our fall pre-emergent applications across Baldwin County. If you're not currently on a w**d control and fertilization program with us and would like an estimate, now is a great time to get on the schedule!

🦋 SEE LITTLE MOTHS FLYING UP WHEN YOU MOW? PAY ATTENTION! 🌱

Have you noticed small moths fluttering up out of your grass when you mow or walk across the lawn? You may be seeing sod webworm moths.

We’re seeing activity right now, and while the moths themselves aren’t what damages your lawn, their larvae can be a problem.

Sod webworm larvae hide down in the turf and feed on grass blades, often at night. As their numbers increase, you may begin noticing:

• Brown or thinning areas in the lawn
• Grass that looks drought-stressed even though it’s getting water
• Chewed or ragged grass blades
• Small moths flying up as you mow or walk through the yard

⚠️ One of the easiest clues is exactly what you see in this video: mowing or walking through the grass causes numerous little moths to suddenly flutter up and then quickly settle back down.

And here's the tricky part — in our South Alabama heat, insect damage can easily be mistaken for heat or drought stress.

If you're seeing this in your lawn, don't ignore it. Catching turf pests early can make a BIG difference before noticeable damage spreads.
