It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2026 Casey County Dairy Show and all associated youth activities scheduled for this week.
As many of you are aware, Casey County is facing an unprecedented water shortage. This afternoon, our committee was informed that water service at the Central Kentucky Ag Expo Center would be discontinued as part of local conservation efforts. Unfortunately, access to water is essential for the care of livestock, restroom facilities, sanitation, food service, and the overall operation of an event of this size.
Because we were only made aware of this development this afternoon, we immediately began evaluating every possible option. After careful consideration, it became clear that there is no way to safely and responsibly host the event under these circumstances.
This decision is incredibly difficult and one that no one wanted to make. Our committee has spent countless hours over the past several months planning what we believed would be one of the best Casey County Dairy Shows yet. Up until just today, we fully anticipated moving forward with the event as scheduled. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond the control of our volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, and committee members have left us with no viable path to conduct the show safely.
We know this news is heartbreaking. We recognize the time, effort, and resources that exhibitors and their families have invested in preparing for this week. Our hearts especially go out to the youth who were looking forward to competing in the show, fitting contest, showmanship contest, dairy judging activities, and Sunshine Class.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our judges, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and supporters who were prepared to make this year's event a success. We are also thankful for the patience and understanding shown by our exhibitors and families as we navigated an unexpected and rapidly changing situation.
While we are deeply disappointed that we will not gather in Liberty this week, our commitment to supporting youth and the dairy industry remains stronger than ever. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2027 Casey County Dairy Show.
