We just noticed signs of active Brown Patch fungus on couple of lawns we manage. This is a bit earlier than typical for Central Texas, but this year has been exceptionally wet and we expect that fungal diseases will be a major issue this season.

Try to get your fungicide down as soon as possible if your lawn shows any signs of infection (or if you had fungal disease last season). We will try to post a bit more extensive write up soon, but we first have to get as many properties treated before the showers later today.

Small front yard which was originally sodded with Bermuda 10+ years ago, which largely died due to unmaintained irrigation and shade. We fixed the irrigation issues, over-seeded non-shaded areas with Oasis Bermuda, and sodded shaded areas with 2 pallets of Palisades Zoysia. 10 days later, Zoysia sod largely closed the stitches, but did not root in completely yet. Bermuda seed just started to germinate, and is progressing well.

Area between the sidewalk and the street only has drip irrigation, and we will likely see partial seeding failure there as it can be hard for drip irrigation to keep seed moist enough for germination.

First hard freeze of the season is forecasted for next weekend by most models - looks like we might get down as low as 20F which could easily break most RPZs (backflow preventer device you have if you have your own septic tank) and possibly some in-ground backflow preventers (you generally have this if you are on city sewage). Make sure you winterize your irrigation system and all outdoor spigots while there is still enough time.

Check our guide on https://www.juniper-lawns.com/post/diy-irrigation-winterization or get an irrigation professional to do it for you.

A quick guide for home-owners to winterize their irrigation system in Central Texas (particularly Williamson County / north Austin) area, although this is very similar for all southern states). We suggest that you find a licensed irrigator to do winterizing as they can also perform a whole system ev...
