Why does it matter that the electrical (or HVAC/plumbing) contractor that you hire is state licensed?
In several municipalities in Ohio, anyone (regardless of experience) can register as an electrical contractor. They can also form a corporation/LLC and obtain an insurance policy, which then gives them the leeway to say that they are licensed and insured.
However, to obtain a state license, you must qualify to take the test which includes the following: completing a four-year apprenticeship program with 8000 on-the-job training hours, passing a state exam proving knowledge of electrical theory, National Electric Code safety and practical application. Along with that, the state licensed electrician at a company must complete continuing education each year. Every electrical company that is state certified will have their license number on their vehicles and invoices.
Although only one person at a company needs to pass the state certification process, several excellent local companies place all their technicians in the four-year apprenticeship program to ensure your electrical needs are taken care with proper knowledge.
