As we celebrate 30 years of teaching, training, and preserving the craft of dry stone masonry, we’re marking this milestone with a project that looks toward the next thirty: the launch of the North American Dry Stone Survey.
This new open‑source mapping initiative invites masons, students, landowners, and enthusiasts across the continent to help document dry stone structures of every scale and era. By submitting locations, photos, and project details, contributors will help build a living, growing record of the craft — one that reflects the diversity, ingenuity, and cultural value of dry stone work in North America.
The survey is designed to be collaborative, accessible, and community‑driven. Your contributions will support conservation planning, public education, and greater visibility for the craft and the people who practice it. Many of the mapped sites can even be visited in person, helping connect the public with the landscapes shaped by dry stone masonry.
As we honor three decades of work, we’re excited to launch a project that belongs to all of us. Here’s to building a shared map of our craft — one stone at a time.

Happy Birthday to us! Thirty years of training, teaching, restoring, and championing dry stone masonry — and we’re celebrating the only way that makes sense: by thanking the people who made it all possible. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again… without you, we’d simply be a pile of rocks.
To everyone who has supported our mission, learned with us, built with us, and believed in the value of dry stone masonry, thank you. Your dedication has shaped landscapes, strengthened communities, and kept this craft alive for future generations.
As part of our 30th‑anniversary celebration, we’re thrilled to launch the North American Dry Stone Survey — a new open‑source mapping project that invites masons, enthusiasts, and community members to help document dry stone structures across the continent. By contributing locations, photos, and project details, you’ll help build a living, growing record of the craft we all care about.
Here’s to the next chapter, the next walls, and the next thirty years of working together. Many more to come.

Central Kentucky has been blanketed in snow again, and—much like last year—a thin layer of ice settled neatly on top. When inspiration strikes, it really strikes.
DSC Master Craftsman and Board Member Seth Thomas took advantage of the perfectly flat, ice‑topped snow and built an igloo. Rumor has it he’s launching a spin‑off organization… the Dry Snow Conservancy.
