⚠️ August Safety Reminder from DMR⚠️

As we are deep into our busy season, you’ll be seeing our trucks and teams out across the state. We have a quick favor to ask our neighbors:

**Please stay alert and slow down when approaching work zones.**

Our crews work just inches away from moving traffic to get the job done right. Between the heat of the asphalt and the heavy machinery, their job is tough enough—let’s make sure they get home safely to their families every night.

* **Watch for Flagging:** Follow all hand signals and signs.
* **Give Us Space:** Large equipment has blind spots; if you can’t see the driver, they can’t see you.
* **Be Patient:** We know roadwork can be a hassle, but a few minutes of delay means a much smoother ride for everyone later!
** Please respect any crew working on or near the roads. Time is precious and we understand you’re in a rush. We also want to get home safe to our loved ones. Thank you for helping keep us keep safe as well as you!

Fresh asphalt hits the ground around **300°F**, and ambient heat makes the job even hotter. Whether you’re working hard outdoors or driving past a active job site, safety takes a team effort:

* **Hydrate Constantly:** Water and electrolytes are non-negotiable—drink well before you get thirsty!
* **Pace the Work & Take Shade Breaks:** Regular rest stops in the shade help prevent heat exhaustion and keep energy levels high.
* **Watch Out for Road Crews:** Summer is peak paving season! Please slow down, stay off your phone, and give all asphalt crews extra space to work safely in the heat.
* **Know the Signs:** Keep an eye out for early signs of heat fatigue, like dizziness or muscle cramps.

Summer weather means peak paving and sealcoating season is in full swing from Southern Maine to the County. With road crews working hard on hot asphalt in high temperatures, driver awareness in work zones is more critical than ever.

Here is how you can help keep our asphalt and sealcoating crews safe on Maine roads:

* **Slow Down in Work Zones:** Always follow posted work zone speed limits and be prepared for sudden traffic slowdowns or lane shifts.
* **Put the Phone Away:** Distracted driving is a leading cause of work zone accidents—keep your eyes fully on the road and flaggers.
* **Give Extra Clearance:** Give paving equipment, sealcoating spray trucks, and foot crews plenty of room as you pass.
* **Expect Minor Delays:** Be patient around active job sites; a short wait keeps everyone on the road safe.
* **Merge Early & Calmly:** Pay attention to early warning signs and merge into designated lanes as soon as it is safe to do so.

☀️ **Beat the Heat with a Fresh Driveway!** ☀️

Did you know summer is actually the **best time** to pave or sealcoat your asphalt? Higher temperatures keep the asphalt mix warm and workable, allowing for smooth compaction, better bonding, and a seamless final finish.

While the heat works to our advantage during installation, hot weather also means you need to take extra care of new or existing asphalt:

* **Give it time to cure:** Fresh asphalt needs at least 48–72 hours to cool and harden before parking vehicles on it.
* **Watch out for power steering marks:** Sharp turns while stationary on a hot day can leave scuffs on soft asphalt—turn your wheel while the car is gently moving instead!
* **Protect your investment:** Regular sealcoating prevents heat, UV rays, and summer rain from breaking down your pavement binder.

With this major heat wave rolling in, our crews at DMR Sealcoating & Paving are bracing for some seriously high temperatures on the asphalt. If we're feeling it, we know you are too!

A quick reminder to all our neighbors, clients, and friends: please prioritize staying hydrated over the next few days. Drink plenty of water, take breaks if you're working outside, and keep an eye on your pets and loved ones.

We'll be out here keeping driveways and parking lots looking sharp, but we'll definitely be taking extra water breaks to stay safe.
