Heat is an unusual “animal”. It’s movement cannot be stopped!
In hot weather, it’s coming into your house, wether you want it to or not!
Conversely, in the winter when your trying to heat your house, it’s leaving when you want it to stay around longer!
Insulation doesn’t stop the transfer, it only slows the rate of transfer.
What attribute of the laws of physics could be more often effectual in our everyday lives?
Units like BTU and Calories are a measure of heat quantity!
Temperature is a close kin, but a bit different. It is a measurement of heat intensity.
Stop and think how often temperature is relevant in our lives!
These imagers can only see thermal radiation. They are a thermal imager.
But unlike a regular camera, they can’t see through some things glass or plexiglass. It blocks the thermal radiation.
So, with uses like examining heat loss or gain of heat in homes and other structures, they are a cutting edge tool for money savings!
In the Summer, they can easily indicate poor or missing insulation.
As well as gaps around doors and windows.
This technology is also useful in the Winter. Since heat only travels from hot to cold, in the Winter we image from the outside of structures to find thermal leaks around windows and doors etc.
Finding excessive heating of electrical circuits and devices is of unlimited use. When commercial or industrial companies utilize this technology, they very often qualify for premium breaks from there insurance carriers.
There are 3 levels of Thermography certification. With 3 being the highest. The reason mostly being for accurate interpretation of thermal imaging conclusions. There are several hidden attributes that can contribute to false readings!
Mainly something called emissivity. It affects how well a given surface emits thermal radiation.
This is just one of many attributes which Thermographers are trained to be on the look out for and adjust the imager accordingly!
Accurate temperature measurements are of utmost importance in the profession.
