Trees are great for shade, but could the roots growing beneath them cause problems for your private well?

The good news is that tree roots generally aren't a threat to a properly constructed and sealed well casing. However, they can cause problems for the underground water lines that carry water from your well to your home.

Roots naturally grow toward areas where moisture is available, and if there's already a small leak or weak spot in a water line, roots can find their way in and make the problem worse.

That's one reason why choosing the right location for a well is so important! When planning a new well, we consider more than just where to find water. Accessibility, nearby structures, underground utilities, septic systems, and surrounding vegetation all play a role.

A little planning today can help prevent some big headaches down the road!

When it comes to running the truck and working on a drilling site, Orville will be the first to tell you: Diane knows what she’s doing.

She’s spent plenty of time behind the wheel and alongside the crew over the years, and according to Orville, she’s pretty darn good at it, too.

Around here, well drilling has always been a family affair, and Diane has never been afraid to get right in the middle of the work.

That wellhead sticking up in your yard may not be the prettiest part of the landscaping... but there's a reason it needs to stay accessible!

Your well may need to be accessed for maintenance, inspections or repairs throughout its life. Burying it, building over it or making it difficult to reach can turn what should be a straightforward service call into a much bigger project.

It's also important to pay attention to what's happening around your well. Keeping the area clear and properly maintained helps protect an important part of your home's water system.

So while you might be tempted to make that wellhead disappear into the landscaping, sometimes it's better to let it stick out a little. 😉

No water? It doesn’t necessarily mean your well has gone bad.

Your well is just one part of a larger system working together to get water from underground to your faucet. When something goes wrong, the problem could be the pump, pressure tank, electrical components, water lines or another part of the system.

That’s why properly diagnosing the problem matters! Before assuming you need a new well, it’s important to figure out which part of the system is actually causing the issue.

Knowing how the pieces work together can make your private well a little less of a mystery, and help you know when it’s time to call in the professionals!

Okay, deep breath. Here's where we landed.

Quick rewind for anyone new here. We started with one set of Washington Town & Country Fair tickets up for grabs, then promised to double it if we hit 1,000 followers. You blew past that in 24 hours. So we upped the ante: get us to 1,500 and we'd make it THREE.
