Crisp edges are not created by good edging skills alone. This was done with a stick edger, but as you can see, using your blower to "clean out" your edges is a must, or else you're leaving your work hidden under a bunch of debris.

On a Sunday night in August 1971, Richard Nixon interrupted television across the country to deliver some economic news. He'd spent the weekend at Camp David with his advisers, working in secret on something big.

That night, he announced that the United States would stop letting the dollar convert into gold. He used one reassuring word to describe it: temporary.

Here's why that moment mattered so much. Since 1944, under an agreement struck at Bretton Woods, the dollar had been pegged to gold at 35 dollars an ounce, and foreign governments could trade their dollars for the metal itself. That tether kept the printing honest, because every dollar in circulation was a claim on a limited pile of gold sitting in a vault.

Nixon cut that tether. The window never reopened.

That was 55 years ago this week. In 1971, the national debt was under 400 billion dollars. Today it sits at 40 trillion and climbing. A dollar from 1971 has lost the vast majority of its purchasing power, north of 80 percent by most measures.

Most people watching that Sunday night had no real idea what had just changed. Most people today have no idea it ever happened. That's a gap worth closing, one kitchen table at a time.
