One of the simplest things you can do is pay attention to your drain line.

A clogged drain can lead to:

We spend a lot of time thinking about the temperature inside our homes, but what about the quality of the air we're breathing every day?

Your HVAC system plays a big role in your home's indoor air quality, and there are a few simple things you can do to help keep that air cleaner:

✅ Change your air filter regularly. A dirty filter can restrict airflow and allow more dust and debris to circulate throughout your home.

✅ Keep humidity under control. Excess moisture can create conditions that encourage mold and mildew growth.

✅ Keep your HVAC system clean. Dirty coils, blower components, and other areas of the system can affect both performance and cleanliness.

✅ Pay attention to your ductwork. Leaky or contaminated ductwork can introduce dust and other particles into the air circulating throughout your home.

✅ Consider additional air-quality solutions. Depending on the home, upgraded filtration, UV lights, air purification, and humidity-control equipment may be worth considering.

And here's an important one: don't assume you need every indoor air quality product on the market.

Every Florida household seems to have one person who thinks 76° is perfectly comfortable…

…and another person quietly walking by the thermostat and turning it down to 71°. 👀❄️

🔧 TIP TUESDAY: Keep Florida Humidity Outside Where It Belongs 💧

Your thermostat might say 74°, but if the humidity inside your home is too high, it can still feel warm, sticky, and uncomfortable.

Here are a few simple things you can do to help control indoor humidity during Florida’s rainy season:

✅ Keep doors and windows closed when your AC is running. Every time humid outdoor air enters the home, your system has to remove that extra moisture.

✅ Use bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans when showering or cooking, but turn them off when you’re finished so they don’t continuously pull humid outdoor air into the home.

✅ Change your air filter regularly. Restricted airflow can affect your system’s ability to cool and remove moisture properly.

✅ Keep your thermostat fan set to AUTO. Leaving the fan set to ON can sometimes blow moisture left on the evaporator coil back into the home between cooling cycles.

✅ Check your indoor humidity. During Florida's humid months, keeping relative humidity around 40–60% is a reasonable target, with many homes feeling more comfortable closer to the middle of that range.

And if your home consistently stays above 60% humidity even while the AC is running, it may be worth having the system checked. There could be an airflow, equipment, ductwork, or other moisture-related issue that needs attention.

Remember: Your AC has two jobs, cool the air AND remove moisture. ❄️💧

The 15-Minute Rule

⏰ Is Your AC Taking Too Long to Cool Your Home?

Here's a simple rule of thumb:

If your thermostat is set to 74° and your home is 78°, your AC shouldn't take all day to reach the desired temperature under normal conditions.

If it seems like your system is constantly running but your home never feels comfortable, it could be a sign of:

❄️ Dirty coils
❄️ Low refrigerant
❄️ Restricted airflow
❄️ Duct leaks
❄️ A system that's overdue for maintenance

Don't ignore the warning signs. Catching small issues early can help prevent bigger repairs later.
