Today was a good day. I enjoy being a business owner, I’ve always enjoyed engaging with my customers and making sure there needs are taken care of and the feeling that they depend on me and my guys to keep their business going and the trust that is there built by nothing but doing what you say and when you say you are.
Today though I remembered the reason why I’ve been doing HVACR for almost 30 years. Today I got to be a technician. My tools in my hand making a repair that most would have to walk away from or even wouldn’t attempt. Swapped a 10hp 250lb motor inside a unit I could park my truck in and then rewired a frequently drive due to a short in the system. No wiring diagram, no cell service just knowledge, experience and a determination that only some will understand. When I cycled the power and that air handler come on and the Trane chiller hit second stage it brought back the satisfaction and the reason why I do this everyday. I wouldn’t trade the sweat, long hours, hot mechanical rooms or any other aspect of this career to do anything else.
That’s why I say if it’s broke I can fix it, because I will always be a technician and a damn good one at that.
Also pulling back up to the shop this afternoon and my yard is full of Trane equipment made the day even better.
Today I wasn’t a business owner I was a tech.
