Twenty years ago this month, the Katydid Foundation Inc. was launched. That bright summer morning, Katie moved into the Haverhill residence from her group home with live-in caretakers. Others soon joined her!
It was a novel concept, a shared living residence that was not a traditional group home. That idea has proved to be an ideal setting for adults on autism spectrum … each with her own caretakers and lifestyle.
Three young women called the place home for most of that time. Residents continue to live their best lives. And dozens of families have learned how to navigate the confusing world of adult services and housing through our individual consults and workshops.
In spite of the many pluses, Katydid has not been without obstacles…the Haverhill house had a complete renovation in 2010 with yearly repairs including another new roof this year!
Over the years, many donors and grantors have made this possible. Huge shoutout to everyone including, Versacon (formerly Stoltz and Ehre), the Wadleigh Foundation, Town Tire, Federal Loan Home Bank and North Shore Home Consortium and Jim Haskell.
Also hugs to our Board of Directors who lend their time and support to all of us.
The future will hopefully include a transition to new leadership! Yes, I’m old ☺️ So if there are any takers, you know how to contact me.
Our past and present residents are grateful for your ongoing interest and support!
Gratefully,
Anita
