3 Big lessons I’ve learned running a security business 🔐

Running a security business has taught me a thing or two, here are three lessons I’ve learned the hard way:

1️⃣ Trust is everything.

When a business uses us, they’re not just buying a CCTV system, they’re trusting us to keep them and their clients safe. If we mess up? They won’t just lose faith in their security, they’ll lose faith in us. Reliability, transparency, and doing what we say we’ll do is non-negotiable.

2️⃣ Security should be proactive, not reactive.

Too many people call us after their customer has had a break in. But good security isn’t about picking up the pieces. It’s about stopping things from going wrong in the first place. Prevention beats panic every time.

3️⃣ Cheap security costs more in the long run.

We’ve all seen it, someone goes for a bargain CCTV system, only to find out the footage is useless when they actually need it. Or they skimp on access control, and it fails when it matters most. Good security is an investment, not an expense.

One thing’s for sure when it comes to security, you don’t get a second chance.

The #1 Mistake People Still Make with CCTV...

Most people still get this wrong, even in 2025.

They buy CCTV equipment before they build a strategy.

And I get it

flashy cameras, app-controlled alarms, smart sensors… it’s tempting to think the tech will do the thinking for you.

But the reality?

Planning is important

Here’s what I mean 👇

Before a single camera goes up, you should look at:

✅ Risk points – entrances, exits, access routes, blind spots
✅ Behaviour flow – how you move around the space
✅ Integration – how your system connects with apps, Wi-Fi, and monitoring
✅ Placement – because a $300 camera pointing at the wrong spot is still useless

The tech is there to support you, but only when it’s backed by knowledge and experience.
