My name is Marty, and together with my wife I run Amplified Roofing right here in Brownwood. We’re a small family company built on knowing the work and treating our neighbors like neighbors.

I got into roofing in 2017 after our son was born. Before that I was on the road with a country band. Touring with a three-month-old at home wasn’t sustainable, so I took a sales job with a roofing company in Austin. Like a lot of people in this industry, I started by learning how to sell. I had good coaches, but the craft itself wasn’t part of the job.

A few years later I joined a smaller company started by a friend in Leander. That gave me the chance to learn the trade beyond the sales side. I worked alongside experienced roofers, handled repairs on my own, and spent time on crews doing roofing, framing, electrical, flooring, and more. For the first time I felt like I was helping people with their homes instead of just selling them a new roof.

We were living in Brownwood the whole time. For six years I made the four-hour round-trip drive every day. My truck gave out before I did. That commute is a big reason Amplified Roofing exists. We want to serve our own community the right way.

In an industry that often prioritizes volume and claims, we’ve chosen a different approach. We’re not out to impress a sales manager. We’re here to impress you. We live here. We swing hammers. We explain the work in plain language and only recommend what a house actually needs. Our name and reputation are on every roof we touch.

This homeowner in Goldthwaite was missing flashing behind her siding. The previous roofers did the best they could without removing the siding but unfortunately the roof would still leak during heavy rains. So I removed the siding, installed proper step flashing along the whole length as well as a peel and stick membrane , and replaced the siding. Additionally we fixed an improperly installed boot flashing for a water heater, replaced a few missing shingles and removed an old satellite dish.

We replaced this 25 year old 3 tab out in Early last week with IKO Dynasty. This roof is now rated for 130 mph winds and class 3 impact resistance! Here are the before and after pictures. Thank you Sam and Christy Smith for the work!

Here’s an example of what goes underneath the shingles of a roof. Typically you’ll find tar paper underneath older roofs. Tar paper is slowly being phased out in favor of this synthetic underlayment. A synthetic underlayment is considerably more water resistant, and it does not tear like old tar paper. If I handed you a strip of synthetic you would not be able to tear it without tools. This makes it a much more robust product to have installed and additionally it’s much safer for the installers. We re-roofed this monster house in Round Rock a couple years ago and I guarantee my crew would not be happy walking on these steep inclines without synthetic underlayment installed.

In the valleys you can see the ice and water barrier installed. This is added through valleys and around any penetrations on the roof. In the north it’s added along all eaves to prevent ice damming. In the second picture you can see the 20” valley metal flashing that will be installed through the valley. With such redundancy the valley which are most prone to leaks become some of the least likely entry points for water to pe*****te your roof system.

A roof is more than just shingles. If someone offers to overlay new shingles over your existing roof, show them the door. They do not have your best interests in mind.

When you find someone to do it for cheaper.

Saw this next to the job yesterday. The original shingle was an IKO 3 tab, same as what I was working on. They’re manufactured larger than regular 3 tab so if you just pick up a bundle of whatever it’s not going to work. So instead of doing the leg work and getting the right shingle this contractor used a completely different style to patch up the house. They’re manufactured larger left pieces on the roof and if you look close you’ll see they didn’t even finish.

Will it work? Probably. It looks like they did a good job making them fit. But it looks like absolute garbage and just shows they either didn’t know what to put up, or they didn’t care.
