Trying the viral heat gun method for uncapping honey to see if it would work better than using a knife… 🤔🍯
It sounded like a great idea, buttttt… it didn’t quite work for us! 😂 The heat gun melted the honey down the frame, but instead of making things easier, the bees ended up recapping it! 🐝

I guess we’ll be sticking with the good old-fashioned knife method. 🔪🍯

Have you tried the heat gun? Did it work for you, or did you have the same experience?

Our bees work so hard during the spring and summer to make honey. 🍯 When we harvest honey, we make sure to only take what we can. We make sure to leave plenty for our bees to keep them healthy and thriving through the colder months. As bees collect nectar, it contains a lot of water. They bring it back to the hive and work together to evaporate that excess moisture. Once the honey reaches a safe moisture level. Bees then seal the honeycomb cells with a thin layer of beeswax, called a capping.

That wax cap:
🍯 Protects the honey from moisture and contaminants
🐝 Keeps the honey preserved for the colony
❄️ Helps the bees store their food for winter
🏠 Signals that the honey is finished and ready for long-term storage
So when you see those beautiful white or golden capped frames, you’re essentially looking at the bees saying, “This honey is ready. We’re saving it for later!” 🐝❤️
The process is so intricate and beautiful!!

Checking out the hive to see how much honey we will be harvesting! The bees have drawn out the frames and started capping the honey which is a great sign!

Is AI really coming for trade jobs—or are the trades the safest career bet left? As automation reshapes office work, more people are looking to skilled trades for stability. But how long will that advantage last?

🐝 Ever seen a hive being robbed?! 🍯

This is exactly what is happening here! 👀

Take a look at the entrance. Notice how large it is and how much activity there is around it. That’s one of the first signs something isn’t right.

Now look at the top of the hive. You can see bees gathering and trying to squeeze their way inside. 🐝

Here’s the giveaway: If those bees belonged to this hive, they wouldn’t need to sneak in! 😳

Robbing happens when bees from another colony try to get into a hive and steal its honey. It can happen quickly and can be devastating to a weaker colony. Luckily, this colony is thriving and we found it so we could help.

🐝🍯 Beekeeping isn’t always just about checking for honey. It’s about watching bee behavior and recognizing when something is wrong!

Which way would you put in a new box? On top? Or on bottom? Is there a right or wrong way?? Who knows. 😅 lifting the top box off to put one on the bottom took some 💪 but we will see how it does in the next few weeks!!! Hoping for some drawn out frames so we can have a bountiful harvest this year!!! 🍯🍯🍯
