What a view! This photo was taken from the top of one of our newest projects for Douglas County, Kansas, atop the new Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Addition (next to the historic county courthouse), overlooking KU and Lawrence.

Cromwell installed the 114 kW solar array using Jinko Solar panels and SMA Solar Technology inverters on a ballasted racking system. The system maximizes the available roof space and is one of two solar projects we're completing for Douglas County, with the second project nearly finished as well.

Most importantly, we're incredibly grateful to our outstanding crew members who installed this project safely and professionally through some truly brutal summer heat and humidity. Their dedication, craftsmanship, and commitment to safety make projects like this possible every day.

☀️ STEAM Day fun at Prairie Park! 🎨🔬
This week we had the best time hanging out with students at Prairie Park Elementary in Lawrence for STEAM Day!

We chatted about:
⚡ how solar energy works
🏫 the solar project on THEIR school
🖍️ and yes—did some solar‑themed coloring, too

We absolutely love getting kids excited about clean energy and showing them how the sun powers their school. 🌞💛

Fun fact: Prairie Park was the first Lawrence school to receive a significant solar installation.
Cromwell Solar also installed:
➡️ a small early system at Southwest Junior High back in 2007
➡️ and a new solar project at Sunflower Elementary in 2025

One of the perks of having Cromwell Solar’s headquarters in Downtown Lawrence? We get to test, compare, and live with solar technology every day.

The building we purchased 12 years ago features both flat membrane and standing seam metal roofs, making it the perfect real-world solar lab. Across our roof and awning, you’ll find:

• Solar on multiple faces of pitched metal roofs
• A solar awning
• Flat roof arrays with solar panels installed both totally flat and pitched at 10°
• Multiple solar panel brands and inverter types (string and micro), some over a decade old
• Battery backup capable of powering our entire office and warehouse

Our latest upgrade focused on an array installed completely flat on the roof. We swapped the old inverters for new Generac PWRmicro inverters— powerful enough for today’s high wattage panels and built with durable all metal construction to better manage heat and extend inverter life. We’ve had great success with Generac generators and batteries, so we’re excited to put these microinverters to work as well.
