There are moments that remind us how quickly life can change. For the Flieger family, this has been one of those moments.

Jonathan Flieger, a local arborist, was seriously injured while removing limbs from a tree. During the work, the trunk gave way and Jonathan fell more than fifteen feet onto a rock covered yard and a stone water feature.

Jonathan sustained significant internal injuries, severe facial fractures that required the placement of a metal plate, and a broken arm that required surgery. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was life flighted to the nearest trauma center. Because this accident came so soon after a major intestinal surgery earlier this year, his recovery is expected to be complex and prolonged.

Jonathan and his family have lived on P Road in the Lake of the Ozarks area for four generations and are deeply rooted in the community. You may have even seen his mother driving the blue mail Jeep around West Lake.

Medical bills and lost income do not pause life, but they do put everything at stake, including their home, their land, and the future Jonathan was building for his family.

This is one of those moments where a community is called to show up. Jonathan and his family are facing more than any one family should, and it is up to us whether we let them face it alone.

Have you noticed a terrible smell in your yard, or are your allergies worse than normal? The culprit might be a Bradford pear tree. While these trees may look pretty in spring, they cause big problems for the environment and your neighborhood. Here’s why you should consider cutting yours down:

1. They’re invasive. Bradford pears were introduced as ornamental trees, but they’ve become a major problem. They spread aggressively, crowding out native trees and plants that are essential for local ecosystems. Once they take over, it’s hard to bring back the trees and plants that actually belong here.

2. They smell awful. If you’ve ever walked past a Bradford Pear in bloom, you know what I’m talking about. Their flowers have a strong, unpleasant odor—often compared to rotting fish—which is not what you want near your home!

3. They’re weak and break easily. Bradford Pears grow fast, but that comes at a cost. Their brittle branches split and snap in storms, often falling on cars, houses, and power lines. Even a mild storm can leave a mess in your yard.

4. They’re major allergy triggers. Bradford Pears produce a huge amount of pollen, which can make spring allergies much worse. If you or your family suffer from seasonal allergies, this tree isn’t doing you any favors!

5. They spread harmful seedlings. While Bradford Pears were originally bred to be sterile, they’ve started crossbreeding with other pear trees, creating wild, thorny offspring. These new trees grow in fields, forests, and roadsides, forming dense thickets that are nearly impossible to remove.

6. They hurt local wildlife. Native trees provide food and shelter for birds, pollinators, and other animals. Bradford Pears don’t support local wildlife in the same way, and when they take over, they push out the trees that do.

If this sounds like you, this is the peak time to take care of these pesky and invasive trees!

If you have a Bradford Pear, consider removing it and replacing it with a native tree like an oak, dogwood, redbud, or serviceberry. These trees are stronger, better for wildlife, and won’t take over the environment!

Let’s plant trees that help our lake area, not hurt it!

If you have a Bradford Pear you want us to take care of give us a call or send a message!

A busy week for Liebl’s Tree Service! Construction on the shop that was destroyed in the fire is underway!

We have also sent a crew to North Carolina to help with hurricane relief. They will be spending the week getting some trees off some houses!

Don’t worry, we are still here to help all our neighbors at the lake!

Now, can you spot the tree climber?

As many of you know, our shop burnt down Thursday Night. It was a total loss of the shop and eveything inside, but no one was seriously injured. At this time we are not certain how the fire started.

We want to take this time to extend our most heartfelt thanks to our neighbors who checked on us, called 911, and came to help in whatever way they could.

Most of all we want to thank all the firefighters that responded and worked so hard to contain the fire. Without them, who knows what would have happened. Be sure to hug a fireman next time you see one.

That being said, Liebl’s Tree Service is still fully functional and serving the Lake area!
