Greetings people of Earth! That's what I'd say if I achieved my goal of leaving this world behind in pursuit of better, brighter worlds in the far off reaches of space! Dreams and writing take me there, so I actually do achieve that goal for moments at a time. Anyway! Hiatuses.. Hiatusi.. Hiatusy.. Breaks! Everyone seems to be burdened by this "everyday life" thing. Huge bit of news: Major revamp of the website. Taking this time of literary hiatus to move the site from WordPress to another platform. Easier to navigate and easier to read (and use).

It's been a while since I last got a chance to sit and write. Today's an exception as there's been unfortunate news relating to most fronts here at Short Stack. Promptly Friday with TA Rindler will resume in a week or so due to a family loss, and our thoughts go out to the family. Poetic DJ is also on a hiatus due to complications and her family situation, and we're hoping for the best. [ 57 more words. ]

This was actually a challenge from a friend. He wanted to see what I could come up with based upon the image he had. It's much shorter than my recent stories, which makes for quick reading! Enjoy! [ 354 more words. ]

"Do you believe in fairy tales?"

The question stirred Angela from her somber daydreams. "Excuse me?"

"Do you subscribe to the idea that fairies exist in our world," the man replied. His expression was intense and sincere.

"I'd like to believe.." Angela spoke softly, her eyes returning to the shifting landscape outside their window. The train they are on is heading from Chicago to San Diego, but she wasn't expecting to really speak with anyone along the way. Angela barely noticed the man sit down across from her an hour ago.

"I sense a 'but' in there somewhere. But..?" The man prodded at her a bit, a small grin danced across his lips. [ 3,088 more words. ]

On the first weekend of August, my husband and I went on an overnight trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, and before we left, we had agreed to go to one location to site-see and pull the "tourist" move. Since check-out was at 9am (we did the whole AirBnB thing, and it fit the price we paid for the bed), we figured we could do something outdoors for a change. [ 585 more words. ]
