WHAT. A. NIGHT. ✨

An incredible evening at the 2026 Master Builders Victoria Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards, celebrating some of the very best people, projects and craftsmanship in our industry.

We were incredibly grateful to attend as guests of Brickworks Building Products Brickwork and spend the night connecting, celebrating and catching up with so many great people across the industry.

And it was nice to swap the work boots for black tie for a change! 🥂

A huge thank you to Josie, Cindy and the Brickworks team for having us. We never take opportunities to be in rooms like this for granted, and it was a real privilege to be there.

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners. The calibre of work being celebrated was seriously impressive.

Feeling very grateful, very inspired… and still a little blown away by the night. 🤍

SYDNEY, WE’RE COMING! 👊🧱

Two weeks to go and we’re seriously pumped for this trip!

We’ve got a big few days planned in Sydney, connecting with some great people across the bricklaying and masonry industry, catching up with familiar faces, making some new connections and sharing plenty along the way.

A huge part of the trip will be joining Bricklayer Contractors Australia for their Breakfast & General Meeting, where we’re really proud to be presenting “Our Tools & Our Industry.”

We will be presenting alongside the amazing Think Brick Australia and we’ll be sharing our story, the journey behind DAT Tools, some of what we’ve learnt along the way and our insights from being part of this industry both here in Australia and overseas.

And this is only one part of what we’ve got planned while we’re in Sydney... 👀

We didn’t submit this story. MASONRY Magazine came to us and asked us to tell it.

Some of the best parts of this industry happen away from site.

We know we’ve been a little quiet on here lately, life and work have had us flat out, but there are a lot of updates on the way, so bear with us.

In the meantime, Tara was a guest of Brickworks Building Products Brickworks at the HIA Vic - Residential building industry news, training & events Building Women Lunch this week, and it was one of those days that’s a good reminder of how much value there is in just being present and connected across the industry. Brickworks have backed us for years, right back to our early Team Amuso days through to where things are now, and it’s always genuinely good conversation when we catch up with their team.

Guest speaker Chelsea Roffey shared her story on the day. She played a part in getting maternity leave introduced for AFL umpires, which lands a bit differently as a family that’s built around the trade and the kids growing up alongside it. She also spoke on diversity more broadly, on what it takes to pioneer space in a non-traditional domain. Fitting, given how much of our own journey has been exactly that.

We’ve followed James Starbuck’s journey for a long time, watching him build something honest, real and raw.

Next Wednesday, Damian and I are heading into the studio to record with the legend himself for Jimmy Talks Construction. As far as we know, we’ll be the first bricklayers he’s had on the show.

We’re grateful for the invitation and genuinely looking forward to meeting him in person. Expect bricklaying, business, the trade, family, all of it. Nothing’s off the table.

Did you know a brick is 40% heavier before it’s even been fired?

A standard Australian brick, 230 x 110 x 76mm, weighs around 4.2kg in its raw, unfired state. Once it’s been through the kiln, that drops to around 3kg. The firing process drives out moisture, which is exactly why a finished brick ends up lighter and stronger than the clay it started as.

Damian and Scott got to feel a raw brick in its true clay form on our tour through Krause Bricks, and it’s genuinely surprising how much heavier it is than you’d expect. As said in the video, they wouldn’t be fun to lay all day.

Getting to see the entire process from start to finish, watching how a brick actually comes to be, was one of the most fascinating parts of the whole day.
