Get to know pests in Vegas. Tuesday’s spotlight after a rainy day: Springtails!

What are they? Springtails are tiny, wingless arthropods commonly found in damp environments like soil, leaf litter, and decaying wood. They range in size from 0.25 to 8 mm and are known for their ability to jump using a specialized appendage.

How to prevent them:

1. Eliminate Excess Moisture
• Fix leaks under sinks, in basements, or around windows.
• Use a dehumidifier in damp areas (especially basements or bathrooms).
• Improve ventilation in crawlspaces, attics, and under sinks.

2. Dry Out Soil Indoors and Outdoors
• Don’t overwater houseplants—springtails thrive in moist potting soil.
• Allow soil to dry out between watering.
• Remove mulch or wet organic matter from around your home’s foundation.

3. Seal Entry Points
• Caulk gaps around windows, doors, pipes, and foundation cracks.
• Install or repair weather stripping and door sweeps.

4. Clean Up Organic Debris
• Remove leaves, bark, mulch, and damp wood near the home.
• Inside, clean up fungus, mildew, or mold—springtails feed on it.

🔥Summer heat is upon us! Which also means, more times indoors. Thanks A/C! ❄️
🕷️Bugs also want to make their way into your home. Here are some tips we’ve put together from the Environmental Protection Agency to help prevent pests in and around your home. Doing this along with keeping up on regular pest control services with us will help keep unwanted guests out of your home. 🚫

*Remove sources of food, water and shelter. ❌

*Store food in sealed plastic or glass containers. Garbage containing food scraps should be placed in tightly covered trash cans. Remove garbage regularly from your home.🫙

*Fix leaky plumbing and don't let water accumulate anywhere in the home. Don't let water collect in trays under your house plants or refrigerator. Don't leave pet food and water out overnight.💦

*Clutter provides places for pests to breed and hide and makes it hard to get rid of them. Get rid of things like stacks of newspapers, magazines, or cardboard. 🚛

*Close off places where pests can enter and hide. For example, caulk cracks and crevices around cabinets or baseboards. Use steel wool to fill spaces around pipes. Cover any holes with wire mesh.🩹

*Learn about the pests you have and options to control them. Ask us! 📞💻

*Check for pests in packages or boxes before carrying them into your home. 📦

Another good thing we can recommend is to clean up yard debris and keep it away from your home. 🧹
