Now that we found WHY this shower failed… it’s time to rebuild it the right way. 🔨💪🏽

We finished installing the Durock, taped our seams, started the RedGard waterproofing, and poured our properly sloped concrete shower pan. 🚿🧱

Once everything had the proper time to set, we came back and waterproofed EVERYTHING. 🛡️💧

But we don’t just waterproof it and hope for the best…

We TEST it. 👀

💧 Fill the pan.
⏱️ Let it sit for 24 HOURS.
📏 Come back and check the level.

24 hours later?

Exactly where we left it. 🎯✅

No leaks. No water loss. And once drained, everything flowed beautifully toward the drain. 💧👏🏽

This is the stuff you’ll NEVER see once the tile goes up — but it’s what determines whether that beautiful shower actually lasts. 💪🏽🔥

Waterproofed. Tested. Ready for tile. 😎

⚠️ If you’re remodeling a shower, pay attention to this. This is important.

This bathroom had been remodeled about three years ago… and now it was leaking. 💧

When we first looked at it, something already didn’t sit right with me. We came in at the beginning of the rebuild and found this!😐

The wall tile was being brought straight down into the concrete shower pan, and the transition at the bottom of the shower immediately raised a red flag. 🚩 There wasn’t a proper detail there that I trusted to keep water where it belonged.

At that point, my gut told me one thing:

Tear it out🔨

I didn’t trust what was underneath.

And once we opened everything up, we found exactly what I was worried about…

😳 There was NO shower pan liner.

None.

One of the most important parts of keeping a traditional shower waterproof had simply never been installed. So three years later, the leak really wasn’t a mystery anymore.

That’s the part of remodeling people don’t always get to see. 👀

Beautiful tile is great. ✨
But what’s underneath it is what makes that beautiful shower last.

So we stripped it back, corrected the problem, and rebuilt this shower with the proper liner and waterproofing system it should have had from day one. ✅💪🏽

🏡✨ A New Chapter for JG ✨🏡

The last few years have been incredibly fascinating.

We've worked on countless homes 🏠, taken on projects that challenged us 🛠️, learned more than I could possibly put into one post, and most importantly, we've had the opportunity to meet and work for so many incredible people throughout our community. ❤️

There are families who trusted me when JG was still finding its footing. Customers who called us back for a second project, then a third. People who recommended my work to their friends and family and helped our name travel further than I ever could have taken it on my own.

That means more to me than I can properly express. 🙏
What started as JG Handyman has grown into something much bigger.

So today, I'm incredibly proud to introduce the next chapter:

The name is changing.

We are getting so close to bringing this entire bathroom together🔥

With the shower tile installation complete, we moved into the next stage of the renovation—refreshing the surrounding space and beginning the final finishes.

We focused on:

🎨 Applying a fresh new coat of paint
🪵 Installing the smoked-gray flooring throughout the bathroom
🤍 Creating contrast against the white marble-style shower tile
🚿 Installing the shower fixtures and finishing hardware
🧼 Cleaning and detailing the newly completed surfaces

The darker flooring adds the perfect contrast against the bright marble tile and helps every detail stand out🔥

At this stage, the bathroom is almost complete—but the final pieces are what will truly bring the entire transformation together💯

The transformation is really starting to show🔥

With the tile installation complete, we shifted our focus to the finishing details that make all the difference. We grouted the entire shower, completed the custom floating bench, installed the shower fixtures, and made sure every surface was clean, uniform, and ready for years of daily use.

In this stage we focused on:

✨ Grouting the shower walls and floor
🪑 Completing the custom floating shower bench
🚿 Installing the shower fixtures and trim
💧 Performing a water flow test to verify the shower floor drains properly
📐 Confirming the finished slope directs water exactly where it should
🧽 Final cleaning to reveal the finished tile and grout

With the shower fully prepared and waterproofed, we began installing the tile one piece at a time. Carefully building the layout from the bottom all the way to the ceiling

We focused on:

📐 Starting the tile layout and keeping every line balanced
🧱 Installing the shower wall tile one piece at a time
⬆️ Continuing the tile installation all the way to the ceiling
🧴 Finishing the custom recessed shower niche
🪟 Carefully tiling around the existing shower window
🪑 Tiling the custom floating shower bench
🚿 Confirming the proper slope toward the shower drain

This week, we focused on building the foundation the right way:

🔨 Creating more space for the new walk-in shower
🧱 Installing Durock cement board
✂️ Removing drywall and preparing the framing
💧 Building the shower pan with a proper waterproof liner and mortar bed
🪑 Custom-building a floating shower bench
🧴 Framing and waterproofing the recessed shower niche
🚿 Verifying proper drainage and water management
🛡️ Applying RedGard waterproofing to every seam, corner, fastener, and pe*******on before tile installation.

These are the steps most homeowners never get to see—but they're the reason a shower lasts for years instead of developing leaks.
