Sooo... LAMINATE flooring sheer. Works fu***ng awesome. I got this exact one a couple days ago for two jobs coming up that are approved on the estimates. Cheap bu****it companies will trick people with words like, can be used for, or multi-material capable. Thats bu****it. Don't trust these descriptions. Almost all of these types of sheers will cut vinyl plank. Only a few will cut Laminate though.
Somebody told me I'm wasting money on the sheers and blades for saws. I was curious how he did flooring. So I dropped in on him doing a vinyl flooring job. He was charging over $4 a square foot in labor alone. Every time I saw him needing to make a cut, he was scoring and snapping and every fu**in cut was dangerous or ugly as hell. And holy crap he was slow. I went out to my truck and brought in my dedicated vinyl sheer. I just said here man, try this out. I didn't wait for him to speak, I left. He was trying to stick to his guns on the wasted money thing he said to me. 1500 square feet later, he asked me to order one for him. He's got a few different sheers now btw.
There are a lot of people that do s**t I do. All have their methods. I learn things by seeing and doing. Here's two lessons I learned about flooring. Materials are NOT the same. Vinyl, Laminate, Engineered Wood, Wood, Concrete Planks... amazing isn't it? The second lesson I learned is that there is no fu***ng way I'm putting a crew member on a floor using the scoring method with razor knives. I don't give a s**t who does flooring, how long they've been doing it, how they choose to do it, or what they charge. Case in point on those two lessons..
Scoring. I am not a dumb ass when it comes to safety. A plank I was scoring one evening, moved, and led to me in the emergency room. I cut my calf open from my knee halfway to my ankle. It was over 1 inch deep and took months to heal all the way. They said I was lucky. I wasn't feeling the luck.
Materials. Laminate is a monster in the plank world. I don't like it because there are not many tools dedicated to cutting it and shaping it. I'm not saying tools aren't available. I'm saying that the tools aren't really out there for dedication to cutting the material. Saw Blades are burnt during a job. Few sheers out there can handle the force or the sharpness for clean cuts. FYI: just because a sheer looks like another sheer, does not mean it's capable of steady use.
If you plan to do a laminate flooring job even as a home owner, budget this sheer into the project. I used it on some planks I had laying around and I actually laughed at how awesome it cut laminate. Almost no force and beautiful lines. Only a few companies in each field that I trust for the tools they sell. Marshalltown is one I use and can say, never mislead me. The Bullet equipment is priced decent and works.
I'm not affiliated in any way with any tool companies. I just find good or bad tools and say how it went.
