As some of you may have known, we are officially 8 months pregnant! Ah yes women can do anything , BUT by far our greatest quality has and will always be our intuition. I have been lucky to be in this body for 35 years, and I know when it’s telling me I may be pushing it a little too far. So, we’re going to reel it in. 🥳

With that, I wanted to share that Farrissey Farm will no longer be at the Valparaiso Market for the remainder of this season, BUT we WILL be back in 2027!

We wouldn’t be able to do this without you. To every wonderful human I met at the market this season: thank you. I appreciated our conversations, your encouragement, your excitement over the produce and flowers, and every single person who showed up week after week more than you’ll ever know.

I also took notes. After selling out every week of arugula, lettuce mix, spinach, carrots, radishes and herbs, you can bet these will be back and we’ll be growing a lot of them next season!

I gathered lots of emails along the way and will be reaching out in early spring to coordinate deliveries before the market starts in June. If you’d like to be included on our spring email list, please feel free to send me a message!

What a heck of a first season. 💕

Thank you for showing up, supporting a local farm, and making this season so much more than just growing food.

I debated writing this post because it’s so damn sad, but it felt completely wrong not to celebrate her wonderful life. Bailey was such a big part of our farm, but even more than that, she was such a big part of our lives.

Bailey was my alarm clock every morning at 4:30 with a little whine. We’d have morning coffee and treat training, and then we’d walk the farm.

For those who knew Bailey, she was a complete goofball with one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever known. I always said she loved Andrew more, but she was always my girl.

I loved everything about that dog.

I loved our morning walks and how I’d throw a treat in the air and she’d jump four feet to catch it. I loved that you never had to bend down to pet her. I loved that she was such a gentle giant and that she’d only cuddle if you were petting her—and the second you stopped, she’d give you a soft paw to remind you to keep going.

I loved our howling parties.

I loved that when Brynn was little, Bailey would give her a lick and knock her right over, and Brynn would laugh.

I loved her zoomies and watching her run free.

Her last morning was special, too. I remember looking at her by the flowers and thinking, “Man, she looks so happy.”

I’ll always miss you, sweet girl, but I know you’re still with me, just in a better place.

What I love so much about the farm is connection. We all have a recipe our dad used to make, a vegetable our mom used to love, or a flower that reminds us of someone we miss.

And behind every great garden/farm is probably a dog who spent a whole lot of time by someone’s side.

I didn’t realize it until she was gone, but I had trained Bailey to walk on my right side. Every walk she was on the right side, she’d wait for a treat on the right, and now there’s this undeniable pull and tilt toward my right side.

I said it once before, they never really leave us.

And for anyone grieving a dog or another pet right now, I found a recent Huberman Lab conversation with Cesar Millan helpful, particularly the part about losing a pet. Sharing it here in case it brings someone else a little comfort, too.

My Gram was a woman of many talents. She owned a bar on the South Side of Chicago called Mary’s Korner, and she was also the one who taught me how to make a bouquet.

She always told me to use flowers in odd numbers and to let each flower go where it wants to go. Don’t force it.

I’ll be honest, I still have moments when I think, “Who am I to make something so beautiful?” Then I remember who taught me.

I wear Gram’s jean jacket while I make bouquets, because the people we love, never really leave us. They show up in the little things, in the lessons they taught us, the traditions we carry on, and the quiet moments when we need them most.

So come see us at Mary’s Korner at the Valparaiso Market and you can grab a fresh bouquet filled with a whole lot of love. Tell me about your Gram, and I’ll tell you about mine from the South Side of Chicago. 💕🌻
