Sometimes, the biggest part of an addition is figuring out how it all fits together.

When planning this primary suite addition, one of the biggest challenges was determining the best way to connect the new space to the existing home.

Our solution? Tie the addition into the existing kitchen and repurpose the home's bay window within the new primary suite. This approach helps create a more natural connection between the spaces, avoids awkward hallways, and brings in plenty of natural light while minimizing the impact on the existing layout.

A kitchen refresh that brings new life to the heart of the home!

The homeowners are giving their kitchen a fresh, updated look with new cabinetry, a timeless tile backsplash, and thoughtful selections that bring the whole space together.

A kitchen remodel is about more than updating finishes. It’s an opportunity to refresh one of the most-used spaces in your home and make it feel new again.

A bathroom transformation in the making!

This bathroom remodel is a great example of how rethinking an existing space can completely change the way it looks and feels. For this project, we're replacing the homeowners' old bathtub with a new tile shower, giving the bathroom a fresh look and a whole new feel.

Before the beautiful tile goes in, there's plenty of important work happening behind the scenes to prepare the space for the finished result.

After a storm caused water to enter this basement, the homeowners discovered mold that needed to be professionally mitigated. Once the mold was cleared, they were left with a basement that no longer looked or felt like the space they had before.

Now that the mold has been cleared, we're helping bring their basement back to life with restoring what was lost while incorporating a few upgrades to make the space even better than it was before.

From where it started to where it's headed!

These homeowners are not only remodeling their kitchen, they're also replacing the flooring throughout the kitchen, dining room, and living room to create a more cohesive feel across the main living spaces.

Before the new flooring could go in, our team replaced the existing subfloor throughout these areas, creating a solid foundation for everything that comes next.

Adding on? Why not give the whole exterior a fresh start, too?

When you're already adding an addition, updating the existing siding can help create a seamless look across the entire home. No trying to match new siding to old, no awkward transitions, and no contrasting exterior that makes the addition feel like an afterthought.

Sometimes, the best time to update your siding is when you're already making your home bigger.

This multi-scope remodel gave our team the opportunity to reimagine several areas of this home, including the kitchen, living room fireplace, and primary bathroom. By updating each space with the others in mind, we were able to create a more cohesive look and a home that feels elevated from room to room.

Our designer recently had toured the Sophie and Meyer May House in Grand Rapids, a home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908 and now owned and maintained by Steelcase.

What stood out the most wasn't just the incredible craftsmanship. It was how different Wright's approach was from the Victorian homes surrounding it at the time. While Victorian homes often featured highly detailed designs, compartmentalized rooms, and vibrant colors, Wright embraced straight lines, open living spaces, and a much more restrained palette.

More than 100 years later, many of Wright's ideas continue to influence the way we think about our homes.

From this experience we further encourage when remodeling to design around how you live, what you love, and what makes your home feel like home. Trends come and go, but when your space reflects your unique perspective, it never goes out of style.

Patching a hole in your drywall might seem simple, but a few small mistakes can make the repair much harder than it needs to be.

Here are a few tips from our team to help you get a smoother, stronger finish:

DO: Use premixed drywall mud.
It has a smoother texture, a longer working time, and is easier to sand.

DON’T: Use quick-dry 5, 10, or 20-minute mud for larger patches.
It sets quickly and doesn't sand as easily, making it harder to get a smooth finish.

DO: Add wood blocking behind the hole.
Blocking gives the new drywall something solid to attach to, helps prevent cracks, and makes it easier to keep the patch level with the existing wall.

DON’T: Fill the entire hole with mud.
Not only will it take much longer to dry, but without proper backing, there's nothing solid for the mud to adhere to.

DO: Apply three thin, even layers of drywall mud.
Let each layer dry before applying the next. This gives you more control and makes it easier to correct imperfections along the way.

DON’T: Slather on a thick layer of mud.
Too much mud can dry unevenly, making sanding more difficult and increasing the chance of cracks or moisture-related issues.

The key to a good drywall repair? Take your time, build it up gradually, and let each layer do its job.
